Description
Ugh. Too bright.Aside from that, this is an illustration for the Kay novel. That is, of course the Persian, Nadir cradling the corpse of his dead son after he was relieved of his suffering.
The drawing is ok...needs more ambiance...more drama.
::facepalm::

I love the way Erik is dressed. So fancy. It's said that he wore expensively tailored clothes to make up for other............aesthetic challenges.

You just know that Erik was tormented on the inside. I mean, Reza was the only child to show him kindness.

Very good...that scene was so intense. I love the way Erik is in front with Nadir and Reza in the back.

beautiful work...a heartbreaking part of Kay's book...i think i loved his time in persia best because of his relationship with the Persian and his child...

What an incredible book. I just have to begin by saying that. Now to give credit where credit is due. I wouldn't say this is the best I've seen from you, not by far but it's better than I could muster so I can hardly complain. One of the things that struck me right away was the mask. With the mask being black it lacked contrast to the rest of the drawing. I think white or at the very least a lighter color would make it stand out far more. I would enjoy more Kay drawings though so thanks for this one.

Yeah. I just think it was poor excecution. The black mask could really work, I'd just need to do it better.

Aaah! It's always relieving to see good ol' Nadir and Reza. How I'd wish they'd get just a bit more spotlight, as they deserve.
The way you drew Reza was pretty much exactly how I'd picture him in my mind. And you hit pretty spot-on with Nadir, too. Love his expression of grief; those tear stains are wonderfully done.
The detail in that coat is absolutely stunning. I really don't know how to comment well on it...It's...Wow. 0=
I also really like how you gave him the black mask. It adds to the morbidity of the scene quite well! And that moon in the background is quite eerie. <3 Astounding, as always!

::grins broadly:: I'm glad that you like it!
I have this sketch of Nadir sort of formulating in my brain. it really needs to be put to ink soon.
The coat looks quite nice in person as well, I must say:;smirks:: Costume photos to follow..
Thanks again!

Always happy to see the Persian figured. I like the drawing and the subject a lot. Composition-wise, maybe it'd work better to have more space between Erik in the foreground and the Persian behind--like, maybe show Erik's face in closer, so he's sort of *in* your face, with Nadir standing well back so you get the distance between them.
Sorry if that's more comment than you wanted!

Beautiful rich colors, but I think Erik's torso is a touch too short in comparison to his head. Shrouding his neck/chin was a nice touch.

Ugh. S'what I get for drawing on the plane.
Yeah, proportion and control is really off here. However, that's more or less a colored version of my Persian Phantom costume sketch.

Haha, I used to draw on the plane, but I'd always get a little weirded out whenever another passenger would try to peek over my shoulder to see what I was doing.
Tis a very nice costume, regardless of other technical oopsies.

I like how you dealt with Erik's whole face being covered without the mask being the whole covering. That was always one of those vagues in Kay's novel that was hard to pin down.
