Description
Part three of the Switzerland story! "In which stuff actually happens."Part IV: [link]
Part II: [link]
Edit: Added functional loading bar! Will be adding them to previous versions soon.
Notes:
This is terribly, terribly overdue and I apologize! Not only to whoever is actually keeping up with this, but to myself. I am sorry, self. I was supposed to be finished with this so I wouldn't end up frantically trying to finish cleaning it up after finishing schoolwork.
Enter Edward Hyde! In the great tradition of Jekyll and Hyde stories, the livelier of the two personalities only shows his face about halfway through the story, after Jekyll has pretty much exhausted his quota for flailing and complaining. Actually I hadn't planned to write him into this story at all--he sort of pushed himself in there when I decided to make Frankenstein's little tumble.... more of a big tumble.
Hyde is forced to show his presence whenever life-threatening situations arise (due to his superior strength and agility), but otherwise he has been pretty content to sit on the sidelines throughout this story. Why? Because here he is really, really out of his element. Edward Hyde operates best in densely populated cities where he has plenty of havoc to wreck. Here, his only potential victims are also the only two people who know how to get him out of these mountains, and also.... just maybe.... possibly..... his friends (?).
Also a major reason this installment is so late is that I have horrible problems drawing Hyde. XD He is the best tracking device for my improvements (?) as an artist because he is hands down the toughest character I have to draw. As it is, I'm probably at least going to redraw that panel where he's making ducklips at the end.
Also random note on Frankenstein: His solitary life has led to his tendency to not contribute any useful solution to a situation but still mope around when the end result isn't to his liking. Hmm! I seem to be subconsciously writing in my personal pet peeves into his character.

Every time I look at the line "Surely... it has something" I can't help imagining Hyde responding with Oh, I'm sure it does. But don't call me Shirley."

Oh--Frankenstein's creature killed her as part of a final ultimatum to Frankenstein himself years ago. Big drama, is in the original book!

Frankenstein is a pretty morose kid in general!
I find it strangely wonderful that most of the story takes place when he's, like, eighteen. It's adorable.

So I noticed in the book.
I know, I found it interesting too that it took place in his younger years. How they described creature was eerie.

Love the addition of shading, really starts to give atmosphere to the whole thing, especially the part where Edward comes out of the shadows, looks fantastic. Very sinister, love it.

For Mr. Hyde, why not draw him, save that picture, and use it as a template with which draw other emotions on him? At least for the head, that is. That way, you don't have to worry about keeping his face identical to every panel.

I do have a general reference for his face, but his facial structure is tough for me to figure out and draw at different angles, etc. Also that hair.... just flops all over the place. XD

Ooooh Hyde <3 I'm so happy to see him, he made this part soooooo enjoyable <3
I think he turned out quite alright too, considering you have a hard time drawing him 'u' Will there be a part IV? More like, how many parts is there suppose to be? I'm highly looking forward to it!

Most likely, IV is going to complete the story! It may end up being a bit longer than the other parts...

I love this :3 My class ended up reading Jekyll and Hyde and I couldn't imagine it with any other Hyde and Jekyll besides yours!
One question: When Creature asks (or scolds, I guess) Hyde about how he din't manage to kill him with all this commotion, was he referring to Jekyll, or someone else?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
otherwise In reply to whitetiger5270 [2011-10-07 05:45:29 +0000 UTC]
Oh! He's referring to the fact that Hyde actually saved Frankenstein on the way down--that is indeed rather strange behavior for Hyde! He seems to have a strange kind of affection for a very few number of people, Frankenstein being one of them....

I love the reveal of Hyde! Dramatically silhouetted, blocking the audience's view -- eee, dramatic.
Also I'm starting to really like the Creature. Who knew that the walking abomination of Science (!) would end up being the voice of reason between two (mad) scientists?

otherwise In reply to vifetoile [2011-10-07 05:46:24 +0000 UTC]
I consider it a kind of running joke that the creature is consistently the most level-headed and logical character in any given situation--he's certainly more so than Frankenstein (but I think most people would agree that this is canon from the original novel).

At this point in time Creature and Hyde are united in fighting Frankenstein's stubbornness. They are not normally friends, but they are now.
