Description
cover illustrations by Sabrina Cotugno, 4th grade : )[um! apparently there needs to be some clarification.... I am not actually in fourth grade, nor was I attempting to impersonate a fourth grader! I just made a joke and I didn't think anyone would actually take it seriously. 8| I made this piece using an intentionally simplistic style that would match the simplistic style of storytelling found in the Twilight series. I did not steal this from a fourth grader! Sorry for the . . . confusion?]

All right, I've looked into this and I'm ridiculously confused. This is your art, but in the description it says "4th grade" which I assume to mean how old you were when you drew it.
But in your profile, you say you're twenty-one and in college. So fourth grade was around 11 or so years ago.
Twilight wasn't even out then.
Confused Whiteblade request both forgiveness and clarification.

8| I'm sorry for the confusion but I was just trying to make a little joke because they look kind of like demented children's book covers! My roommate suggested I stick the Scholastic logo at the bottom which brought a rush of nostalgia for when I used to get those old Scholastic catalogues, hence the fourth grade bit.

The artist was only joking when she said it was drawn by a fourth grader. It was all in good humor since they're "scholastic" book covers. : )

My Gosh, i read/watched the Twilight saga thus far, and well i wish this had been the REAl covers for the books. They were sokay but i might have second guessed picking them off the shelf with these. Great Job!

Unless you're said 4th-grader, this artwork is not yours and thus posting this breaks the deviantArt TOS. Please remove it, as this sort of behavior can get you banned.
And if you are said fourth grader, you need to deactivate, because you must be thirteen or older to access this site.

But the person who posted gave credit to the fourth grader who drew it, therefore, not breaking the rules. *shrug* Sounds alright to me...

I swear I am not doing either of those things! 8D;;; I have added an explanation to the description and I hope that's sufficient.... Please don't ban me!
I really thought that it would be more obvious that this was a joke 8| I have yet to meet a fourth grader who understands guache-style photoshop brushes and overlay textures....

I know. My bad. I didn't report you, I swear.
It was a bit hard to tell it was a joke, though. I've met a lot of talented fourth graders, and your description had an overall serious tone.
But hey, it was just a communication error over the internet. Happens all the time, especially with me. No hard feelings?

I dunno! Like I said, I usually don't see artistic talent transfer over well into digital that early. :\ It's actually got me slightly peeved that so many people don't seem to realize that, lol? XD; I'd like to think that, as simple as the drawings are, the use of shape and exaggeration--usually things that people understand later in life--would tip people off to the fact that it was not a child's drawing. Also, it's usually pretty obvious when someone is just trying to imitate a child's drawing rather than the drawing actually being done by a child!

I am sorry, though, by the way. Causing a dArama llama on this scale was absolutely not my intention, nor did I intend to be such an inconvenience.

Dude. I live with her. I watched her draw this. Hell we were both up until midnight laughing about what to put on the last two covers. She's 21. We even buy alcohol together! It's magical The "4th grader" thing is called a "joke" and some may even refer to it as "Sarcasm". You take the netterwebs WAY too seriously, bro-ski. Lighten up and have fun. don't believe everything you read and learn how to detect sarcasm.

Yeah, so I've been told. If you look at a higher comment, you'll notice that. My bad for not noticing a joke within 7 words of seemingly toneless internet text, I was born without a sarcasm meter.

This is why we look at context instead of just text and not be so quick to claim art thievery so feverishly (almost rhymed) on everything... and sorry, didn't see due to my comment stack order, just saw a lot of negativity and I kinda live wiht the girl (she's a good friend) so couldn't stand someone calling her an art thief lol (she is, however, a thief of many other things as I have woken up many a night missing limbs)

mouse-whiteblade In reply to pupukachoo [2011-11-04 12:02:57 +0000 UTC]
I didn't have a full context, though. All I had was seven overall serious-sounding words, a polite smiley face, and a moderate-to-severe lack of faith in humanity.
I did catch my mistake early on, though, and realized I am, in fact, an idiot who needs to get a better sarcasm detector. I am sorry.

That's your problem, if you go in wanting to believe someone has broken the rules or that everyone is a thief of course you'll come out with guns blazing. By context I meant looking at her gallery (even if this is purposefully drawn more simplistic its still obviously her art), looking at the description and her own comments and taking a moment to think that "some people joke around"... that's context. just looking at the text is not context, that's just... text. Sorry if it seems like i'm not dropping this, just trying to maybe keep this from happening in the future? It seems from some other replies you've had trouble in the past with some foot-in-mouth comments and I think maybe if its a "lack of faith in humanity" then maybe you aren't aware that you could be looking to find problems instead of looking with an open mind.

Also, really? Comparing people who uphold the rules Nazi's? Wow. I already noticed and admitted that this is, in fact, her artwork and I was gravely confused, so why pull a Godwin's law on me?
