Oh man, I promised one for a long while now. >.>
I'm not sure how helpful this will be, since its practically a giant progress thing.
This covers the basic use of the lasso tool, and shortcuts of photoshop.
This is really just one of the many ways I do things. For a picture much like my madhatter piece, I use a completely different method. The same also applies for pictures like "Shut up and listen".

Well, I'm in no way forcing my method on anyone, but its great that you've got your own process going on.
Ahh, I used to do that too. xD I still do actually, from time to time, although I prefer digital since I can work at whatever resolution to make it a nice print.

Photoshop is okay for doodles, in my opinion. The default hardbrushes arent that great at lineart though. ): they arent very crisp.
Are you looking for a good brush to paint with, or are you looking for a brush to ink with?

Hmm.. I still have not found a decent inking brush for photoshop, which is why I rely on SAI's brushes. :] Corel painter has a good set of brushes though! Very diverse.
