So yeah, my first try at making a tutorial. This is for because shes been coloring with colored pencils, and now she wants to learn PS. I leant her the CD. yadda yadda yaddaa~
So yeah, she is all confuzzled about layers. So IM here to help her out. ^^-
These are some of the Hotkeys for PS
Brush sizes:
[ :makes brush smaller
] :makes brush bigger
Zoom:
CTRL - :zoom out
CTRL + :zoom in
CTRL Z :Undo *My fave! ^^*
CTRL A :Select All
CTRL X :Cut
CTRL C :Copy
CTRL V : Paste
(Just for you people who are wondering, these hotkeys can also work on Painter. I use Painter 9, but it should work in any version.)
*EDIT*
-Sorry about this. But AFTER I made the tutorial, I then realized a new way of duplicating your layer. You can drag your layer to the "add a new layer" icon thing at the bottom of your layers box. Im SORRY! I hope you guys know where it is.. You better.. >w< If you have any questions. jus comment.
P.S-I know that I made a few mistakes somewhere, this Tutorial is meant for all the Photoshop n00bs out there. But others may find some helpful tips. BTW. I LOVE to see whut you guys can do after lookin at my tut! >w< Put the link up here, and Ayl check it out! Cuz m thinkin of complining all your great deviations, then putting it up! >w<
HOPE THIS HELPED YOU GUYS!!
-EDIT2-
Uhm. I made this quite a while back, and now I have my tabby. But you can still ask me about this. ^^ I do some traditional media every now and then.

Sorry, I should make an update to this tutorial. It could prolly lessen its size by a great deal. XD;; I know how to explain it even simpler now, with even better techniques.
I'm glad I was able to help you though! <3

I think you should upload a new one entirely...Just saying. Because I really like this one. A new one would be awesome, but if someone doesn't understand that one and already understands this one...Yeah. xD

You're out to make save me from horrible pictures! |D That is what I've decided. :3 I also have such trouble with crappy scanners crappifying lineart. Dx Tends to make pictures... difficult. >>; Anyway, I can't wait to try it out! Yaaaay! -luffles you-

Ahh, the magic of photoshop!
If you find that you have unwanted shades or whatever else, I suggest scanning at a dpi of 200+ (whatever your computer can handle) and then using the Levels feature to lighten everything up and to make it look like a clean scan. :3 (Image>adjustments>levels)

Cool! I'll definitely try that out next time I get my hands on a scanner. ^^

Riku-X-Gaara [2009-05-07 00:08:56 +0000 UTC]
Ok, just one thing.
When I select the channels, lock the transparent pixels, and then delete the channels, I still have the original background; not a transparent one.
What do I do about that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
owdof In reply to Riku-X-Gaara [2009-05-07 06:19:54 +0000 UTC]
OH, actually when you select the channels and lock the transparent pixels, you're supposed to hit 'delete' on your keyboard while on your lineart layer. (not delete the channels themselves) (:
If that isnt the problem, perhaps you didnt hide your original background layer? So it still gives your picture a white background.
I hope I helped, but if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. ^^

Oh..okay. Thanks for telling me that, I just got a bit confused on the tutorial.
It's just that I don't use Photoshop that much, I'm just practicing.

Ah, sorry. xDD I'm not the best at explaining things. Haha~
That's totally understandable. (: Photoshop might seem a bit intimidating to people who're just starting out, but once you get the hang of it, you'll really love the program. (and it gets SO much easier to use) ^^
Oh gosh, I cant tell you how confused I was of the thing when I first heard of it. xD hahaha!

Okay I don't get it. How do I get it to print? I downloaded it, but when it printed I had a small thumbnail of it. Am I to save this then open it in my program? Help please.

I'm a little confused by your question, but did you want to print out my tutorial?
I'm not quite sure how to answer you, as I never really expected anyone to print it out. xDD haha~

keropanda In reply to owdof [2009-05-08 20:47:48 +0000 UTC]
Yes. My computer can't handle too many programs running at once and I have to read things + times before I understand what I've read. I think I know what I'm gonna do to print it out. But thanks though.

owdof In reply to keropanda [2009-05-09 18:28:26 +0000 UTC]
Oh, that's completely understandable. (: I guess you could just fullview the tutorial, copy the image and paste it in paint or something. xD haha~ I hope it's the least bit helpful. (: Good luck to you!
