Description This is the first time my pallanoph character Tjora has ever appeared in color, I'll have you know. I said to myself, "IT'S ABOUT TIME I TAKE CARE OF THAT!" So I did.

Initially this was meant to only be a quick color study in Painter to see if the tones I had in mind would look fine. The dark "stockings" were a recent addition, so I decided to try it out. This "quick color study" became quite involved as I was caught up in the little nuances of her coat. Before long, I moved the file from Painter to Photoshop to touch up the little nuances. After several hours (yes, I'm ashamed to admit it took me that long) I arrived at this. I rather like the outcome, I'll have to admit, it's a rather pleasing color scheme, though who knows how washed out it looks here. Critiques and comments, as well as any other feedback you might have is encouraged. We all know I'm not perfect and you'll likely spot something I haven't. (I just don't check the critique feature anymore, since I hear it can discourage people. Ah well.)

I've probably missed something, though most of the info can be found on this ref. Let me know what you all think!

It is a bit different, and I'm not sure just how. I think it's the fact that I started out in Painter that made all of the difference here, as I was able to start it as I would a traditional painting (more or less). I touched it up in photoshop without going overboard, so perhaps that is it! (I also hope this example is not a fluke! )

I'm very glad to hear you like it! I'm rather pleased with the result, I must admit.

Argh, gorgeous texturing. And that is definitely my favourite coat colouring out of your characters!

Why thank you! I'm actually really happy with how her coloration turned out; the original idea for the light and dark points turned up in a sketch about a month ago, and I was eager to see it in color. Normally I have to go through so many edits, this came together fairly quickly!

I think she's my favorite color wise, too. But I just couldn't get rid of Nharath's bizarre gold, hehe!

What brushes did you use for her fur, if yo don't mind me asking?

I used the gouache brush in Painter, and a simple brush in Photoshop with shape dynamics and a faint texture to keep the strokes from looking too flat. I'm still playing around with the brush settings.

Wow, she's so pretty!

Don't be ashamed at how long it took you to work on this - it shows how much work you put into it! Just because some artists can accomplish amazing things in two or three hours doesn't mean the rest of us have to try to live up to that, so no worries, okay? I think you should only have to work on something for as long as it needs to be worked on and until you're wholly satisfied.

I like the blue highlighting at the bottom of the paws; it lends to light depth and that's great :} I also like that spot on the inside of her hind right leg. She looks like a well-developed character, like all the others. I wonder how they will all tie in with one another - if they do - in your story? O.o

She does look considerably prettier in color, doesn't she? The browns add quite a bit.

Fair point. Besides, most of these 2-3 hour people are likely not as easily distracted as I am, and have enough tricks and shortcuts to shorten the timespan. I've gotten a little quicker in terms of fur detail, but I'm wondering if this example might be a bit of a fluke.

Her story has a potential at tying in with the "official" story that is Nharath and Adelaide's. (The one that is a novel in progress) The Asian pallanoph characters and types wouldn't be making an appearance there, though I'm tempted to write narratives involving them, as well. Too much to think about!

It must be very tempting. You have a lot of great species and characters to work with

Thanks very much! It's been a while since I tried fur detail digitally, so I'm rather surprised at how well this turned out.

Tjora needs all of the fans she can get, considering the competition, haha.

Thank you!

After realizing she had no updated color references, I had to get around to doing this. Much better now.
