They're purely animals, though they are nearly as intelligent as humans.

sweet kirin! i love the armor-style scales on the joints, and i ESPECIALLY love the odd-toed hooves.
gorgeous detail, and the crown of feathering on the head/neck region really brings out the nomenclature for your delightful breed here.
excellent creature work!

Yes, they are inspired by deer and ki'rin, though traditional ki'rin look nothing like this and are much more draconic.

Even more so! That one is still a bit horse-ish. Look at art from the actual culture as opposed to art from a fan.
Here are some good examples I found in a quick search:

Thanks for links.
Well, i got ki-lin in my own beateary too.
But this one is based more on deer then on a horse or dragon:

I saw that in your gallery. ^^ I also personally like unicorns that are more deer than horse, hence why the Regali look the way they do. ^^

I absolutely love ki'rin and drew inspiration from them (though traditional ki'rin are much more reptilian in appearance), so they do share some similar traits. ^^

-wants on their gorgeousness- Dx
So preeeetty. So, what's the difference between male and female Regali? Do males have a larger hornantler or something?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
xdragonflyx In reply to yakki [2008-03-22 02:21:56 +0000 UTC]
^^
Not necessarily, no. While males can be bulkier than females, there can also be females that have a stockier build. Same goes with horn size. The male shown here is heavier primarily because I wanted to demonstrate that they can come in heavier builds.
The main difference, then, is the amount of hair. Males tend to have beards of varying sizes as well as more tufts of fur here and there. That being said, though, there can also be males who have smaller amounts of fur and thus can be confused for a female.

Ahhh, I see. Beards are awesome. So it's pretty much a guess-a-gender-and-hope-you're-right-thing.

Heheh, I guess so! When drawing them you can use style and little details to suggest whether one is male or female. Eyes can be drawn to look more feminine or masculine, for instance. ^^
I think... if you were to meet one face to face and it wasn't physically obvious whether it was male or female, empathetic people would just get a sense of its gender and know.

Hm. She reminds me of flowers, or the spring time. I think maybe Zahra might be a good name for her. It means "flowering" in Swahili But you don't have to listen to me

xdragonflyx In reply to LissyFishy [2008-03-21 21:13:57 +0000 UTC]
I do kinda like that... I think I want to stay away from actual names with origins, as this takes place on a different planet, but an alternative spelling would fix that. Zahra does sound pretty, and I like the flower connotations.
Hmm.. Zahrya, Zyrha, Zyhra..

Me too ^^ My names is Latin for Honey bee, and I just recently found out there is a fear called "Melissophobia". I was thinking, "Hm, a fear of me " lol actually it means fear of bees, which makes sense.
