Call me stupid but I can't figure out how to make it playable online XD ssssoooo you'll have to download it. Sorry! *help wanted!*I've animated a my cave lion Abeo in a runcycle and I'm gonna show you how I did it :3 Call it a tutorial if you want, I did in the video... xD
Includes tips to how to make nice-looking smooth animations as easy and fast as possible without using tweening and result in looking all crappy, cheap and "AdventureQuest"-ish..... xD I use the programs Adobe Flash CS3 and Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Please watch the whole thing to see the final animation!
Time taken:
Part 1-3 took about 3 hours
Part 3-6 I think took 4-5 hours...
making the music took 2 hours
and editing the videos and all, two days, 10 hours or so... god damn it I hate iMovie... Better than windows movie maker though, MWUHaha! xD
You'll probably want to turn off the volume after a few seconds, the song I made is really annoying... XD
I would greatly appreciate any comment, and as much critique as possible!
And everything- animation, tutorial, music, character - is copyrighted to PantheraSonya
Visit my new homepage! : [link]
My next video will probably be some runcycle or something lame, as I'm making a game :3 Maybe I'll make an opening-video or something... hmmm...
Bwaahaa, why does the quality suck so much in the end?? O_o

I should re-make this tutorial sometime, it's quite old now! But I'm so glad it was still helpful! Your final animation looks really nice, well done!

Thanks I still got long ways to go but for my first attempt of animating again after years I am happy with it haha. Not as smooth as yours but I think more practice will help with that
if you remake I will check it out too haha, I need lots of study material

Hi! I really enjoyed this tutorial. I was wondering if it would be too hard to make a step by step tutorial but explain the ULTIMATE basics... I am just getting started and don't know anything about animating... Is that possible?

Woah this was epic!! By the way, if I plan to fully animate in Flash, then I could convert some parts (ears/tail) that are moving separatedly to symbols, so I don't have to redraw them over and over, right?

Thank you! Yes, independently moving symbols are one of the wonders of flash!

No problem, I'm happy to help! Yes, I think you can use photoshop as well, you just have to be a little more inventive x) I used a tool in flash called "tweening" to make it move forward. Flash is an awesome tool, you should try it!

I'm happy you found it helpful!
You can upload flash-animations by making them .swf-files, they can be viewed on deviantArt
Just click "File" up in the toolbar, then "export...", then "export movie" and in the dropdown menu choose "flash movie" (or quicktime, if you want to upload it to youtube or something).
And your animation will be saved as an animation you can upload for everyone to view in their browser!

No problem at all, I like helping people!
Oih, you've come to the boring part ... It's easy, but it takes a looot of time (depending on how long your animation is of course)
method #1:
Simply copy every frame and paste it into photoshop. Maybe there's other ways of doing it, but I haven't found it yet
Method #2:
You might very easily get troubles copying ONLY what you've drawn on-screen, if so, you have do this instead: Click "file", then "export" then "export movie..." but then, instead of choosing "flash movie" you choose "png sequence" (or jpeg/gif, but png has the best quality). Every frame will now be saved as it's own file on your computer (so if it's a long animation it will create a maaany files...).
Now you just have to open them in photoshop and put them together!
Gah, long comment, sorry x)
Have you got to upload any animations yet?

Panimated In reply to slyDakotacat [2010-06-26 15:01:29 +0000 UTC]
Not exactly, When I made the icon I just made a background and drew the silhouette directly on another layer It was just too small to make a sketch XD
