*whew* Goodness, this one took a little longer than expected, not to mention it took like 10 minutes to upload.

Ok, so, *ahem* This is a Milkshake/Hot Fudge Sundae/Translucent Liquid Sculpey/Faux Glass Tutorial. Pretty amazing, huh? Anywho.

There are two glass techniques: Simply applying a thick layer of glaze after you bake your charm, or the technique showed with the Sundae (wrapping with a thin layer of translucent clay), which can be used for the Milkshake, if you'd like.

The TLS technique is identical to the technique I use for frosting cupcakes.

Another little tip that you might learn from this tutorial is baking separate pieces and then putting them together. Applying the whipped cream to the Milkshake before you bake it is very difficult, and you'll probably end up smudging the details. Same with applying frosting to cupcakes.
Freezing the milkshake/cupcake before detailing (i.e., giving cake a realistic texture, or making the lines on a milkshake) can help keep you from smudging one side while your working on another.

Rubbing alcohol is your best friend when it comes to TLS. Simply soak an old rag with rubbing alcohol and wipe down any TLS you may have spilt on the table, floor, counters, etc.

Please, please, please, please, please don't comment to correct any spelling/grammar mistakes that I made. The text boxes wouldn't let me change any text after I clicked outside of the box, so I couldn't go back and fix anything, even if I wanted to.

Also, I apologize if the text is difficult to read...

no, you have to bake the TLS (cream).

Just tested out a milkshake, I think my cream was a bit thick, but it looked okay XD I'll show you the results when it's cooked, varnished and ready (:

I know you said to bake the milkshake with the straw before you add the whipped cream, but wouldn't you burn the milkshake?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfaceparade In reply to RapunzelsRequiem [2009-08-03 04:38:30 +0000 UTC]

nope. if you keep the temperature low enough, and the baking times short enough, it won't burn. you can fully bake the straw and milkshake before adding the whipped cream and it won't burn. you can actually re-bake things four or five times, like if they brake and you want to glue them back together with tls.

Can you mix clay in with liquid fimo instead of TLS to make the whipped cream?

paperfaceparade In reply to mandaredpanda [2009-07-28 18:40:12 +0000 UTC]

yup, they're pretty much the same thing, but i actually like liquid fimo better.

of course! it was supposed to be a tls frosting/milkshake/sundae/faux glass tutorial, but i couldn't fit that into the title.

for others like me who do not have TLS or Liquid Fimo, a substitute would be those fake whip cream from jap

how long did u bake this and what temperature? i tried making one but it burned. please help.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfaceparade In reply to meggymegmeggy [2009-06-13 21:48:44 +0000 UTC]

oh dear. 225 degrees farenheit is usually what i bake my clay at. supposedly you can go up to 275, but it's more likely to burn. from 175 to 200, you could leave it in for like an hour and it wouldn't burn. what temperature did you use and how long did you bake yours?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

meggymegmeggy In reply to paperfaceparade [2009-06-15 09:14:12 +0000 UTC]

i put mine at 120 degrees Celsius for about 10 minutes and it burned.. i just have to lower the temperature.. i guess..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfaceparade In reply to meggymegmeggy [2009-06-15 21:51:43 +0000 UTC]

that's weird... it shouldn't have burned. that's only 250 degrees fahrenheit. try lowering to 100 degrees celsius. what kind of clay are you using? double check to make sure the package says it's bakeable clay. you could have accidentally used modelling clay that can't be baked. i've done that before... not pretty.

I'm seeing 'TLS" in alot of these tutorials, what is it? and where can i get it? I found some clay at my local craft store Michaels and am leaving some of these techniques but I'm still not sure of the jargon : X lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfaceparade In reply to dreamfusion [2009-03-21 17:42:56 +0000 UTC]

TLS is Transleucent Liquid Sculpey. It's liquid clay. I actually like the Fimo brand of liquid clay better. It's really good for things like syrup, frosting, water, etc. or you can just use it as a sort of cement for broken or seperate pieces of clay. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dreamfusion In reply to paperfaceparade [2009-03-22 20:16:29 +0000 UTC]

ahh ok. Thank you so much! Can I get this at like a local Michael's craft store?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfaceparade In reply to dreamfusion [2009-03-22 22:10:13 +0000 UTC]

i should think so. if not, then i know jo-ann's has both kinds. but michael's probably has at least one kind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfaceparade In reply to Leedlpuff [2009-04-07 19:46:05 +0000 UTC]

mmm, not that i can think of. you could just use regular clay, roll it out into a long skinny log and coil it on top of the milkshake.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leedlpuff In reply to paperfaceparade [2009-04-08 00:31:01 +0000 UTC]
