Description This is just the Tech Demo of the "FLASH GAME ENGINE" or the "FLASH GAME MAKER" I'm going to make.

If everything works, it will be an engine which makes Sidescroll games. You don't even have "Macromedia (Adobe) Flash" to make and run games. Sound's cool, heh?

I'm not *that* fan of game makers, but Ive getted some requests titled "how can I make 2D Flash games???". That is my attribute to all "noobs" which ones wants to make games but don't know how that works. I hope I can make some people happy with that.

If you like the idea please note me, so I can see if there's someone interested. Would help me with my work

At the final game maker following features will be included:
- own maps (you decide the size!)
- own graphics (like the player and other gfx)
- own sounds (I HOPE I can incude that feature!!!)
- own music (some *.mp3's...)

And if I'm feeling lucky, I will make a "Map Editor", too, but first of all let get the game maker worked

P.S.: I think that it will be open source
P.P.S.: A project site will follow, too

#edit: everyone who +fav's this will be noted when a newer version will be released
#edit2: The sprites of Mecha Sonic are from Sega:

Mecha Sonic -> Copyright Sega

(the one at the splash screen is my own one ([link] ))

This is a rather good game engine, but I'd like to point out that some of the controls seem a bit odd. When Mecha Sonic goes over certain slopes, the camera shakes. Also, he can't move forward while jumping, which is frustrating.

he spins, but if he touches something while spinning, he stops.

oh yea sorry, i meant instead of the static sprite the animation. it doesnt animate when you don't hold space. if you do hold space you cant move.

Yes, Ive noticed it, the code is a bit below the jump eventy for the animations, Ive just to reorder them.

well, this engine doesn't work as it should, so why bother showing it off to "noobs".

sorry for harsh comment >_>

Its the Techdemo
In a Techdemo are some bugs included, it's just to show off the egnine (not the game maker part )

You're using AS1 in Flash 8? Your insane
So I dont see anything in this that makes it a gmae 'maker'. When are you gunna show off those features?

para-X In reply to psykopath [2007-01-06 14:07:08 +0000 UTC]

Yepp, I like AS1 more than AS2 (dunno why), and it's easyer in AS1 to make an engine like that (for me).

Yes, thats just the Techdemo, the engine. The next release, untill Ive removed all bugs I can find, will be downloadable with some game maker elements. At least you can put your own map inside it, etc.

IMO AS2 would be much easier to use, after you get to know it. It'd allow you to do a much more object oriented approach, but it did take me a while to learn how to use classes and all that, but I still did everything in AS2. Actually, I've never used 1, so I cant debate the difference between them. My general assumption was 'if theres better, then use it'.

Yes, Ive heared it, too that AS2 has many more features, but Ive learned AS1 and used it a "longer" time, so AS1 is easyer for me, there aren't that much differences, but for example, if I convert my AS1 scripts to AS2, they don't work, all of my scripts Ive ever written don't work under AS2, I need to relearn the "language". And AS1 is enought for my "desires", I want to learn AS2, too, but I don't really need it right now.

how'd u make it

para-X In reply to Pearldrumpersay [2007-01-06 03:55:08 +0000 UTC]

how it says, the "original" engine, better: the knowlegende is from TBW: [link]

Ive just read every of the tutorials on that page (and from some more pages) and learned it. Isn't that much complicated. But I think AS1.0 (ActionScript 1.0) is very easy, but I'm working with C/C++, too, so that isn't a comparison.

It's made in Macromedia (Adobe) Flash 8, it runs under AS1.0 and needs at least the Macromedia (Adobe) Flash Player 5 (everyone should have the player 5!).

The sprites are ripped out of "Sonic & Knuckles" for the Sega Genesis.

"Flash+Physiks" in Google give you the right answers for the "Jump Events" etc.

...that's all

Thanks, bugs are inclusive
The level scrolling has to be a bit more smoother, but it's the first version... time brings changes
