Chelsea didn’t realize there was a problem until her head hit the floor. The toss and spin were textbook, but something went wrong on the catch, and then she was on the floor, a sharp pain in her neck and between her shoulders.As she lay there and caught her breath, her teammate Joan grabbed her arm to help her up, and that’s when several things happened at once...

As Joan pulled her up by her arm, Chelsea felt a pull in her back and an icy sharp pain that shot from her breasts down to her toes. She shrieked and Joan let her go, and as she fell back to the floor with a heavy thud, Chelsea felt a sick, pins and needles sensation spreading through her body.

Incomplete C8 quadriplegic was the official diagnosis, but as Chelsea lay there in the hospital bed, looking at all the cards and balloons from her team, coming to terms with her new reality, she knew she had a long road to recovery ahead, but she knew she could get through this.
