This is very informative! I'm kind of wondering how you search for groups though. I would like to find some groups and share my work with others! Is there a way to do that on DA yet? Search specifically for groups?

As previously mentioned, +groups is the official location, but I'd also like to point out clubSEARCH if you are looking for accounts outside of groups

There are many more features planned for development (although the admins don't know what they are yet - only that they have allotted time for making them ), that is why the price is "discounted" for now.

Sadly I'll have to do a poor--man's club/group if I do future ones since that's alot. I mean, a normal account can be 7.95, has cool features why not 20 bucks?
It's cool for the try anyhow

This is excellent. Congrats on the DD!
My only little quibbles are the wording for activating joining (that it should be set to automatic) - none of my groups are set to automatic, because we screen people to make sure they don't have galleries full of art theft. One group also got a troll join request, which gave us the finger and told us how much they hated the topic. The other is the wording for faves from "any deviant". All my groups have faves open to any deviant, but the vote is set up with more votes needed for approval. At all 5 groups we hardly get any fave suggestions at all, so it's not a burden to have them open. This may change I suppose, but the trend seems to be towards no one using the faves rather than more people suggesting. ()
Is it true then that members can remove the group from watch entirely but remain in the member class? Now I'm going to have to start keeping track again so I can kick them out. If someone unwatches a group they should automatically lose member status.

Thank you
I was aiming the wording of this for how I tend to manage groups, I figured the other options (voting for the case of members) or enabling certain other classes to have submissions (such as Contributors only) would be fairly straightforward from the procedure outlined here.
~Is it true then that members can remove the group from watch entirely but remain in the member class?
Yes it is.
~If someone unwatches a group they should automatically lose member status.
I believe they left it that way to allow users to stop receiving messages from the group without leaving the group (although that could essentially be done by deactivating the watch settings).

You're welcome
Yesterday I made a sweep of the member list at #DisneyDreamers and indeed there were three on there who were not watching. I kicked them because if they aren't even going to go through the pretense of paying attention to updates they certainly shouldn't have the right to post to the gallery. I'd also kick people who deactivate both journals and deviations if I had any way to tell they did it.

~if they aren't even going to go through the pretense of paying attention
Heh, yeah, I suppose it depends on how close you want your group members to be.
~I'd also kick people who deactivate both journals and deviations if I had any way to tell they did it.
I don't know if they'd ever implement something that would tell you the precise names of the people watching/not watching (I'd hate to be nagged by everyone I'm watching to start following favs/submissions - I'd rather not watch than be frowned upon), but I would love to see at some point would be a feature that would state the average following of any section - like I think more people may follow my gallery submissions than my journals, so I'd be more inclined to work on a new deviation than a journal update if I had the chance and knew that info.

AreteEirene In reply to parallellogic [2010-01-15 12:35:00 +0000 UTC]
*Gabriel-Joker was one of the ones I kicked. It must not have taken because it's not showing up on my log. I'll update it later; the list is over on my other computer. The others must have come today. I'll just have to check every week or so. Sigh.
I wouldn't personally nag anyone; but I don't think people who aren't actually participating should have the benefit of submitting art. I wouldn't even mind if it didn't even send us a notice but a warning would pop up if someone tried to uncheck both journals and deviations that would say something like "disabling both will remove you from the member class, are you sure you want to disable these?" For me blogs are more important because we always have projects going on and have been continually updating the FAQ as we encounter new situations. People can peruse the gallery at their leisure.

I can't find the other thread, but you were asking about future Super group features I believe. The admins stated that we will be adding a 'members-only' app (like only being able to see blogs, see the Back Room, post Conversations) is high on their development list, we wanna make it really good, so it will be appealing, which sounds like they're possibly trying to make it enticing like a Super group feature, but that's purely a speculative guess...

AreteEirene In reply to parallellogic [2010-01-19 00:57:42 +0000 UTC]
Members-only things sound interesting, but if it's just stuff like forums I'm not all that thrilled (especially considering a forum was included for $30 on a "club" subscription; I was not happy when I realized our forum was completely gone.) Now if it were stuff like a chat widget or paintchat, that would be awesome.
I don't want members seeing the backroom. That would be a weird feature, except perhaps if a member could access their own message history.

~but if it's just stuff like forums I'm not all that thrilled I have no real idea what they have planned. It's not access to the Back Room (they've been quite adamant they won't be implementing that), it's something faintly similar though. I think they have a lot of options when it comes to member-only features, I'll be curious to see what they come up with.

~I'll just have to check every week or so. Sigh. Just give me a holler, I have a script that will do the manual work of cross referencing
I know a few of the members in my groups don't follow submissions, but they do check the gallery weekly (when they submit their own work to the group) to see everything that was posted - that way they aren't flooded with submissions, but they're still watching the journals I guess, idk...

AreteEirene In reply to parallellogic [2010-01-19 00:59:57 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't want to bother you when I can do it in a half an hour.
As for checking the gallery weekly, a lot of the Groups I'm in submit to different folders so it would be really hard to check them weekly for new stuff, as one would need to check a bunch of different folders individually. I really wish there was a way to sort a Group gallery by time.

~I really wish there was a way to sort a Group gallery by time.
I've filed that as a suggestion. There have been a lot of change requests concerning the group galleries, I'm hoping they have a second design phase planned because I think leaving things the way they are would disappoint a lot of users.

Thank you.
I really miss the "browse" option we have in a regular gallery - I always look at art from people I watch that way. I can find the oldest deviation then use the gallery arrows to catch up and then delete everything from that person from my message center. I can't do that for a lot of the groups I'm in.

I have some questions:
How do I delete an artwork from the group's gallery?
How can I withdraw my submission from a group's gallery?
Also, the "edit attributes" on the bulletins does not appear.

parallellogic In reply to LuisaRafidi [2010-01-15 08:43:48 +0000 UTC]
~How do I delete an artwork from the group's gallery?
When you visit the group's gallery and roll you mouse cursor over an artwork, a pencil icon will appear at the top right of the image - one of the options that appears when you click the icon is to "Remove from this folder". If you remove an artwork from all group folders, the group's avatar will be removed from the "Found in these groups" section of the artwork - in essence removing it from the group.
~How can I withdraw my submission from a group's gallery?
That feature is in development
~Also, the "edit attributes" on the bulletins does not appear.
You will need to be logged in as the founder to view those options - or as any other admin with "Can Add/Edit/Delete Most Content" privileges or better in the Back Room.

Bulletins and Private Forum Discussions (Conversations) cannot be deleted, only hidden through the "Attributes" editing option.
