la lumière et bon usage de la texture aussi; pas trop brutal, comme je préfère.

et pourtant, et pourtant

un dessin plus qu'une photo, a la fin.

mais je suis d'accord avec toi, l'esprit y est!

it looks like it's been painted with foam layer on layer over about 20 years
very impressive mood and technical skill

thanks Dafydd!
remember our conversation yesterday about me playing with some images to make them look like film?
i don't know how much it succeeded, but this is one of those i liked.
and the original image was taken with a plastic transparent bag on the lens.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thesadstork In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-10 11:53:48 +0000 UTC]

the plastic bag was a good idea.
and i remember the conversation. i'm not sure if it looks quite like film... more like a painting (more of an achievement i think), maybe the texture isn't quite regular enough to look like film?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to thesadstork [2010-09-10 16:32:27 +0000 UTC]

yes, i'll try that again, i loved the unexpected faded areas.
i know for the film look, not easy.
and painting is a great thing for me, my old love.

thesadstork In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-10 18:26:15 +0000 UTC]

have you tried making a soft surround filter?

[link]

you basically have to cut a hole in the plastic and you get a lovely soft surround

i used to paint too, but moving around makes it difficult

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to thesadstork [2010-09-10 18:37:16 +0000 UTC]

no, that's a great idea, i'll prepare it today, i have time here, and occasions to try it.

yes, painting needs a different state of mind too, i find.

i like cities, and nature only occasionally. but maybe in ten years i'll change my minds and it will be the other way around

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-09 16:19:38 +0000 UTC]

they're both good places. i grew up in a very small town on a big farm, but we were only 9 miles from a rather large city - so i've always been comfortable with both, i guess. the only thing i don't care for is having to drive a car in too much traffic!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to RichardLeach [2010-09-09 16:23:54 +0000 UTC]

i grew up in many places, tried it all..
i like to drive, but yes, traffic is not one of the joys

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-09 16:27:45 +0000 UTC]

montreal is probably okay for driving. there is an American state - Massachusetts, where B.'s parents live - where the drivers are legendary for their aggression and rudeness. a zen state of mind is best for driving over there

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to RichardLeach [2010-09-09 16:47:53 +0000 UTC]

oh you must come drive in lebanon, they're not only aggressive, but they have no ideas what are the real driving rules, so you don't know what to expect, at any moment.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-09 17:02:56 +0000 UTC]

okay this is going to be a really silly question, you'll have to forgive me - do you have to take a driving test to get a license? or do you get one just by asking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

partiallyHere In reply to RichardLeach [2010-09-09 20:33:41 +0000 UTC]

during the war (75- 91) everybody had his license just by paying for it. illegally, but we really had more urgent things to think about.
before, for example my parents, got theirs by presenting a test.
and now we have regulations again. tests and all..
until the next war..
or maybe i'm too pessimist, i really hope to never get back to those times again.
i just don't see the way out of that mess we are in.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-09 21:00:06 +0000 UTC]

of course - drivers' licenses would not have been a concern.

i had been wondering what you thought about the current situation back home. there was that clash on the southern border not long ago. and now i see that just today the prime minister has said Syria was not to blame for the assassination of his father. wow. that is interesting to say the least, i have to spend some more time reading the story, just took a quick glance. Hariri is in Saudi Arabia, and trying to reassure everyone...

war again would be so foolish. but there are people on every side who would fight... i wish the U.S. were really a peacemaker rather than the terribly foolish country we were while bush was president. bush is gone, but i don't know that we are helping yet.

partiallyHere In reply to RichardLeach [2010-09-09 21:15:23 +0000 UTC]

oh, polical declarations, you must know how unrelated to truth they are.
and who cares about truth, from all the political parts.
not even the one who's father have been assassinated, sadly.
nor the ones who's country has been assassinated.

we live in a place so corrupted that i wonder how people can really get involved in politics (talking about true people, honest ones) i know there are, and i'm conscious that not anybody can get so detached and disgusted of it like me (gladly there is).
still, from the inside and the outside, the illness has gone too far. the greed is too general.
even if a war does not happen, the country will still be agonizing.
we have seen a lot, we will survive like before, but this is not a place were a human being can keep his dignity.

too bad, i love my country. i'm proud of being lebanese, whatever critics i might have.
when i'm away, i feel like something is dead inside of me.

RichardLeach In reply to partiallyHere [2010-09-09 21:30:46 +0000 UTC]

it's so sad. i know what you mean, i don't know how the honest people can bear it in politics, yet there are some, some few. hopeful souls, or simply stubborn, or some quality i don't quite have words for. it would not be me, honestly, as much as i try to live by hope.

you should be proud of being lebanese. i remember it before, not with a lot of understanding, i wasn't really paying attention, but i know how different it was.

and that's such a sad feeling, missing it at the same time feeling so little hope for it.
