Description Image

It has been great to have the time to go out again with my camera, after working in the morning and staring out the window at the ever changing weather I headed up onto the moor. Not having much knowledge on locations on the moor I took a wild choice and set my eyes on Great Mis Tor. Chasing the light as rain clouds passed overhead I scrambled for my camera and caught the light against a beautiful sky. These conditions continued throughout the evening however the clouds disapered before the sun set.

Suprised you managed to find a decent shot here tbh! It's very nice but I would take a look at your processing steps, it looks like the sky was dropped in

It depends on the way you view pics, much negativity takes away a good critique.
To me, it looks like the sky could be smoke rising from the stones..
I think it's a lovely welcome you into the image kind of pic.
I'd be proud to be the person who took this photo.. My kind of pic indeed

Why is that? Do we know what he's done wrong?

Alex37 In reply to JakeSpain [2010-05-08 07:17:59 +0000 UTC]

well he's claerly reduced the luminance of the blue to produce more contrast in the sky, I think that has produced a sky that looks slightly too dark possibly and then the edges have been oversharpened producing a slight but noticeable halo which seems to separate the sky from the ground.

I don't know how you manage to balance that much technical insight and still remain so passionate about photography? The more I learn the more mundane it becomes.....

haha, I think I have always viewed technique art as separate things

alright Darren brown, I did increase the blue however I beleive it was the sharpening that brought it out.

If you increase it by a mile, you can see white outlines where the antialiasing means that the blueiness to the edge isnt true blue and therefore is lighter than the rest of the sky. The sharpening exaggerates it. The solution is to back off the luminance adjustment just a tad from where you have it now (maybe do an exposure blend if you still want it darker) and also mask the edges.

I will give it a shot however the use of the poleriser would not have helped, thanks for the input Alex.
