Description
ImageHound tor is one of the most well known tors on Dartmoor, home to Conan Doyle's 'The hound of the Baskervilles'. Steeped in history and myth it's certainly worth a visit plus it doesn't involve a long hike! After a long day at work I decided to take a detour on the way home as the skies looked promising, however the light faded behind clouds fairly early and I almost called it a day... Determined to make the most of the late sunset I waited and was rewarded as the sun appeared below the imposing weather front.
Location
Hound Tor, Dartmoor, Devon, UK

terrific shot man. Do you use a star effect filter on your lens when you shoot into the sun? Or is that just how the shot turns out stopped way down?

The star is produced from two main elements, first the aperture needs to be small, around f/16 - f/22 then it depends on the lens where the glass elements do the rest of the work, however some are better than others.

Thanks a lot man! I always struggle with the lens flare but tried it this weekend and it turned out great!

I like the 'sunstar' effect, good sense of scale as well!

I've heard it's a very good camera for it's class as it's very versatile, however I am a Nikon user and don't know enough about canon to recommend it.

Ha, it's an odd place to shoot as the tor is so scattered but certainly one to tick off the list.

Interesting you saying that, I'm having a few issues getting it right myself. Thanks

I agree with *to-richter - the sky is to bright in my opinion. You should try to add a layer with a black-to-invisible gradient and the filling method "soft light" - looks great after doing this.
