Common Name: Back-striped Weasel
Common Name Synonyms: Stripe-backed Weasel
Scientific Name: Mustela strigidorsa
Size: 15-20cm in the shoulders, 30-35cm from snout to tail-base + 15-20cm long tail = 45-55cm from snout to tail.
Classification: Caniform
Habitat: Forests, Jungles
Diet: Carnivorous; diet consisted of small mammals, rodents
Description: The back-striped weasel is distinguished from other weasels, by the presence of a silvery dorsal streak, from the back of the head to the base of the tail. Little has been recorded of this weasel's habitats and habits. It has been found in a wide variety of habitats, and it is not yet possible to define its habitat needs. Specimens collected came from dense hill jungle, hill evergreen forests, disturbed evergreen forest, lower montane evergreen forest and lowland evergreen forest. Most field sightings were in daylight. They are native to southeastern Asia, including southeast parts of China, northeastern India, etc. In Naga Hills, we did see one back-striped weasel battled against the large bandicoot rat.
