Description: If you like the anime that featured tanukis, then you know that tanukis are also known as raccoon dogs, which they are native to East Asia(included from southeastern China, to south of Siberia, and all over Japan. These canids did looked like raccoons, recognized as they have blackish masks, but the tanukis are more closely related to foxes(e.g. bat-eared, fennec, red, arctic, etc.), than the raccoons. They are among one of the dogs that can climb trees, where they escape from red foxes, graey wolves, lynxes, brown bears, and even tigers. Both red foxes and Eurasian badgers compete against the tanukis for their food and borrows, and have been known to kill them, if the tanukis enter the borrows. Tanukis are very social, like they lived in family groups, plus, like humans, they can get along with other family groups, assumed that they are neighbors to each other. Tanukis are very popular, thanks to the mythical creatures that are mischievous and jolly, whom they are shape-shifting masters in disguises, but somewhat gullible and absentminded. These creatures are featured in the Japanese folklore. Tanukis are mistakenly translated as badgers or raccoons in English, thanks to the anime from Studio Ghibli, Pom Poko. Other TV series, and video games featured the tanukis, like Super Mario Bros. series(this featured the tanuki, as the Tanooki Suit for Luigi or Mario), the Japanese drama-comedy novels and anime The Eccentric Family, and Tom Nook from Animal Crossing for example.
