Description
Most of the work in my galery is sad, sullen or serious, so it was nice to draw a picture of someone smilling for a changeThe reference for this piece came from an exceptionally tallented and famous photographer James Houston, known for photographing celebritys, fashion and advertisments - check out his website here houstonphoto.com/
The drawing took forever, I think I would cry if I counted up all the hours, but i will take a guess at 40+, a largish drawing measuring 45cm X 35 cm on Bristol Board smooth. Drawn with range of Faber-Castell 9000 pencils from 4H through to 8B - a whole 8B in fact, Tomo Mono Zero eraser and a blending stick.
Let me know what you think

Thanks Mark - I don't very often say this, but this actually looks much better on paper than on the screen, I had to make some photographic compromises with the darkness under her chin for the screen which meant adding a bit too much contrast etc. still I am happy(ish) how it looks and it has had a good reception

This is incredible! Would you ever consider making a drawing time-lapse or speed drawing video? I'd love to see you in action

Thanks for the feedback - I am trying to work out how to get a time-lapse video together, the problem is that I draw these over a couple of months, with several on the go at the same time - plus I need to get some equipment and find somewhere with a constant light source!!! But I have vowed to crack it and have targeted early next year - so keep watching

It's so beautiful!
The water droplets and the lady's hands are my favorite things about it. You've given her hands a lot of character.

You are very kind, I guess as a thumbnail it could be mistaken for a photo - thus the reason I put pencil in brackets - glad you like it and thank you

Not just as a thumbnail! I was viewing it in full and it took a deeper look to realize it wasn't a photo. So realistic, truly wonderful!
