Description
12x16 oils on panel--I always thought the '48 truck design is one of Ford's best. I love the massive metal aura this truck has- it's so solid- that's why it's still in descent shape despite the years of service. They don't build them like this anymore....to order a commission, go to : [link]

If I had this picture on my bedroom wall, I would fear every day.

Good old trucks, I had a 49, which looked the same. The only weakness to them is that they would break their rear shackle springs often

They were great, and the fact they're still around says alot. My personal favorite is the '52, but you can only get what's available at the time. sometime I'll do painting of one

Yes indeed, I have seen a lot of 51s around here but very few 52s, they are neat.

The colors for this are remarkably well-chosen, and I love the way you paint brush and shrubs.

You're welcome. Guess they're not technically antiques for 25 years. Things have changed so quickly since then, it seems like more time has passed.

Actually, you're correct- JC Taylor insures autos as antiques once they over 25 yrs- which now means any car built before 1988. I just like the terms old school or classic better to describe them- doesnt have the stigma of "antique"

I can see why you liked my photo! But you captured what I was going for, the dignity of the faithful old machine and its place in the world. I like your choice of models and design, and the colors are very nice indeed.

Beautiful artwork Paul, you make oil painting look so easy. What's the difference with panel board(any smooth surface board for that matter) compared to canvas?. I have noticed many painters using board of late(Joe Jusko for eg..), does the paint spread easier? Just curious because it's something I'm aiming to do with my art in the future

Most of my panels are MDF 1/4 "board, gessoed front and back-gessoed 4xs on the front. I't's a smooth but not slippery flat surface- I use a gesso that is semi absorbent for it-( it's made for boards)The paint does spread easier on panel, and you use less, but pretone it or you get white showing thru the art work on the first session if the paint isnt setting up well--I use an alkyd medium that helps with that
I use canvas boards as well- you get the advantages of canvas with the rigidity of a board- plus it cant get as easily damaged like a canvas. The canvas texture allows more reworking and overpainting, and I find it easier to work the edges of the forms. I look for canvas boards that have subtle weave (Pintura boards in particular)
For works large than 20x24 I use prestretched canvases, since both the above weigh too much past that size(Paramount canvases- they're thick with a tight weave and cheap thru Jerrysartarama.com)
