Ford makes some of the best looking cars.

in the 30s and early40s- dont know what they were thinking from '46- '54-not a fan of those designs

That's when Henry Ford was still CEO, which, thanks to his outdated way of thinking, are some of the worst years

that explains it- I'd always wondered about that.Β
Would you know why GM radically changed designs in1958 and then changed them again in'59? I never have found an answer to thatΒ

It was because Harley Earl left GM in '59.
Earl was a highly sought after coachbuilder from LA who was hired to design pretty much every GM auto. In fact, he redesigned the car, turning them from metal boxes with actual trunks to sleek and low bodies. Earl's last project was the 1959 model year for GM, so most likely he wanted it to be his swan song.

thanks-I knew of Harley Earl designing the '55 chevy, but didnt know of his influence on the entire company- that sure explains the decline in designs in the early 60s-I really appreciate your insight into all this.

much appreciated-the cars take some patience to paint, but always feel worth it- I find the early 50's and 40's fat fenders easiest, but love the chrome and fins from '55-60.

For an oil painting 12x16 like the one of the 36 ford it would be $750

How long does one usually take to do ?

PaulAbrams In reply to finhead4ever [2012-09-29 17:41:54 +0000 UTC]
Probably the quickest (due to drying time) I can turn around an oil painting, using fast drying medium, is 3-4 weeks.
BTW, really dug your gallery here. Great photos of great cars!
