Description
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn! Nar Gojira kikassen o'uta bed'den, o'snappa!"Translation: "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming. And then Godzilla woke him up, and boy is he pissed."
No, not an IDW cover this time. This is a special piece for the 100th issue of G-FAN Magazine (yes, I broke my "no fanzine" policy again- my bud Matt Frank asked and it was the 100th issue- sue me). Check out G-FAN here: [link]
The idea for this has been kicking around for a while, ever since I saw a gag on Facebook where someone took the poster art for GODZILLA VS. THE THING (which features G fighting off a mass of green tentacles- which is odd, b/c his enemy in the actual movie was Mothra) and replaced the title with "GODZILLA VS. CTHULHU". So that got me thinking how that might actually look if done "properly"- so here's 'Zilla throwing down with everybody's favorite Great Old One off the coast of Innsmouth.
I like to think the guy on the cliff is played by Jeffrey Combs. One guess what book he's holding.

I can't take credit for thinking up "Godzilla Vs. Cthulhu", it's been an internet mini-meme for a while. I'm just the guy that did it best (and probably most famously).
If a guy can scribble out a "G VS C" pic in ten minutes and make a cash grab with it, more power to him. But I gotta wonder what Toho Pictures might have to say on the matter. They're dead set against Godzilla/Cthulhu crossovers, so I'm sure it isn't licensed.

Point taken, I didn't realize how popular the Godzilla Vs.Cthulhu theme was. I just thought the resemblance in composition was extremely striking. Especially compared to other Godzilla Vs.Cthulhu I found online after the fact.
("I'm just the guy that did it best" haha nice!)

Yeah, the composition is similar isn't it- w/ Cthulhu slightly higher and his left hand up behind Godzilla and all. I'd say it's pretty damn likely he got his "inspiration" from my work. It'd probably be even closer, but I have a feeling he's copying Godzilla from a publicity photo. Don'tcha just love lazy artists?

my money would be on godzilla, when you are already mad cthulu couldn't drive you mad plus if godzilla got really angry he could just unleash one of his deadly super breaths or heat waves and sustain it.

I can't really comment, but I think it's safe to assume that the idea was definitely thrown around. It's a shame it didn't happen- I think it would've been a huge boost to Infestation 2's sales.

If the stars ever aligned and the Elder Gods (a.k.a. Toho) smiled upon us and let such a crossover happen, it'd be truly amazing. I'd draw it in a heartbeat. Well actually, I'd DECIDE to draw it in a heartbeat. The actual drawing would probably be more time-consuming.

Speaking as someone who knows a little bit of the behind-the-scenes at IDW- in some ways it was close, and in other ways not close at all. But I think its safe to say that every book was carefully considered for inclusion in INFESTATION 2. Personally, I think Cthulhu fighting G wouldn't have just been the highlight of the crossover, but also an idea good enough to hang an actual Toho film on.

Hymm.
Cthulhu is undying (he only turns into vapour form after losing enough health and reforms after some time) and he knows hundreds of mythos-spells. He also has an army of thousands of cultists, his own Star Spawns and he is followed by the race of the Deep Ones.
Godzilla has massive amounts of brute strength, high endurance, and the famous Atomic Breath.
This battle would be truly epic (and probably a good idea for a movie), but in the end, I would bet my money on Cthulhu. Never the less, this picture is all kinds of awesome
