Description There's a reason the Locals avoid Satan's Gulch, what with the waterless stretch of alkali desert, the rattlesnakes, the haunted Anasazi burial caves, the Skinwalkers, the Atomic test site, the UFO sightings, the mysterious disappearance of wagon trains of pioneers, and later Confederate soldiers fleeing defeat at the end of the Civil War...

Colored version of this picture here. since I never drew the background, I borrowed my own Civil War zombies. I think the original intent may have been to have her fighting Egyptian mummies, since the modern clothing and gear would contrast more, and have her seem more like she was in a 30s pulp adventure, so I kept the desert. If you've ever been to the History Museum in Carson City you've seen various things mummified solely by exposure to the desert, displayed in a morbidly gleeful manner. It's a pretty awesome museum, I have to go back there.

Pencil drawing lined and colored in photoshop.

Enjoy,

~D

Well, they didn't really, when the war ended they were pretty much all given a general amnesty and went home. Also, If I remember correctly, by the end of the war most of the Confederacy was essentially encircled to the west by Sherman's drive to Atlanta (and New Orleans taken from the sea), so fleeing west would have taken them toward the enemy...

I originally came up with the Civil war zombies for an idea that would take place in the southeast, Florida or Louisiana, or somewhere with a large swampy area that they could hide under; rather than draw new zombies I just pasted them here, in a desert where they don't make as much sense. But I suppose we can pretend they were fleeing west from the long standing Kansas-Missouri feud which continued after the war ended; that was the plot of The Outlaw Josey Wales, after all.

WONDERFUL! I knew you would come up with an awesome background to compliment the image, and you've done just that.

Despite the change to guns over her usual swords and knives and kukhris, the essential Miyuki-ness is still there in her bad-ass "Come and get me, you freaky, glowey-eyed, Civil War Zombie bastards!"

I LOVE IT!
