Description "I'll never let you go my way…"

… because I don't doubt that Lucius never wanted Draco to become a Death Eater. In contrary, he tried everything to keep his son away from it—and did the same mistake like the Dursleys and Dumbledore: You can't protect someone if you don't clear the matter up!

When Lucius failed and ended up in Azkaban he couldn't protect his son anymore. And Draco was so innocent, because he just didn't know it… Innocence is in many respects just Ignorance… And when you don't know something you can't defend yourself from it!

There is a quote from somewhere: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." I think that this is a major theme in all books.

It's a really emotional picture, and I really like the more serious, less comic-booky coloring. The effect is stunning.

Oh, a comment for my old, old work .... thank you I've found a painting program that is a lot better suited for this style than OC [link] but sadly it costs about 400$. (That painting was done with a trial version). Might just have to save for it. (My last savings went for a camera, well you can't have anything )

That's too bad. But as you say, you can't have everything A camera is cool, after all
Hope you get the program in the future though

You SO understand Malfoy. I think I'll start crying in a few seconds. Your drawings are great, but I'd love to read a whole book about Malfoys written by you. I swear. I've been looking for someone saying these things so long...

Erm... thank you? You're nice but I hate that I've been delusional and thought that the books were great. On the other hand, JKR was a big liar herself: She always told us about that great ending. But it seems that it was all about shipping and childproduction. I've never read it myself, I had to throw away the book after Voldemort managed to kill himself: JKR is such a coward! She wants Harry to kill Voldemort because she has no better idea how to finish the book and on the same time she doesn't want Harry to kill Voldemort, because killing is a bad thing. She's taking what she wants and doesn't pay for the consequences that arise from the plot. She's too much of a coward to explore them.

Also, all the wand-stuff doesn't make any sense and contradicts all other books (so Neville is the master of Hermione's wand since book 5 and from Snape's wand too? Didn't Hermione disarm Snape in book 3?!!) And I haven't begun to ramble about the moral of the books that contains torturing people being OK, if the insult teachers you don't like...

Unfortunately, I'm not an author. It's not that I haven't ideas, but I can't really write. I can draw, but writing is something else. Maybe I can help you otherwise: Do you know the fanfic author Mistful or Maya? She writes Draco Malfoy exactly how I imagine him. Lucius not, unfortunately, but Draco yes. And she's an incredibly talented author!

Also, I did friend you back, but as Yazenia and not as Periwinkle. I'm not going to update this site anymore.

I've read about how big a let down the seventh book has been for you and I can't but agree. I'm slightly less disappointed, but just because I always thought, from the very beginning, that JKR was a very bad writer and that in the end she would reveal as mediocre as I thought. So, you see, I wasn't disappointed. Sure enough, I'm just as angry nevertheless.

Yet I feel like it's...I don't know...a waste? I mean, I think she got some characters well, even without understanding them nor estimating them, and I feel like I "should" give them more space in my mind. Even if her books suck. I don't know if this makes sense to you, I guess it doesn't... Anyway I've been struck by the depth and the insight of your observations and that's what I really appreciated. Fanfiction... I do know Maya and I sort of like her works... Sort of. There's always something that sounds out of place to me, but maybe it's just in my brain. Anyway I wasn't really looking for fanfiction, but for more rants (or essays, if you want ).

So I basically wanted to ask you two things: do you have a blog where you wrote all those thought about characters and motivations? I know you don't believe in this anymore and will not get back to HP fandom, but I'd love to read all your rants, word by word. You're an incredibly talented observer. I swear, there were some sentences you wrote that literally sent me "Oh Gosh, I have to translate this into italian and post it in my journal saying this girl is a genious!" (I didn't, of course).
Secondly, I've understood that you've been a slasher and that you did draw some slashy pics but they're not in here. Can I see them in any way? I'm too curious for my own good...

Thank you for adding me. I really appreciate you as an artist. I'll keep an eye on your works.

P.S.: If you'd like to vent some of your disappointment/anger, I'd love to hear it, too. Especially the part about contradictions and immoral behaviour in the so-called "good characters". I'd LOVE to.

periwinkle-blue In reply to sourcream-onion [2008-03-22 01:05:15 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean... there is something interesting about JKR's characters, and they've clearly outgrown the plot. And that is... yes, "waste" is a good word. But other than you, I can't get me to think too much about them, because it upsets me that JKR hasn't the talent to explore the potential of these characters. Still, I'm inconsequent, since I continue to read three fanfics I've started before DH. Therefore, I'm still thinking about the character, but not in a canon-way.

I haven't a blog, all I've written is on DA, but often in comments and also in other artists galleries. Ranting is fun, but discussing stuff is better. I could write a rant about immoral behaviour of the goodies though, but not just about HP. Just ranting about HP is sort of unproductive... Also, if you've a blog somewhere, I could write answers to your posts. Except, I understand only very little Italian...

And also, I've all my drawings here. The Slash thing is a bit confusing, because I'm not a real Slasher and merely appreciate Slash fics because they are much more plot-driven that het fics. Since HBP, I've read almost only Slash, but have drawn het. I'm going to draw for Big Bang, but these are going to be my first real Slash drawings.

Dear God, i totally love it!!
I;ve got the same thoughts as you. I think Malfoy's are very loving family. And they may not be even evil. They're proud, selfish etc. but not evil itself.

Yeah, Lucius is an ambitious man and I happen to think that this is a valuable thing. Who would want something crazy like Arthur Weasley... he's neither interesting nor funny, nor nice, nor intelligent, nor good looking, and doesn't even bring money home. In short, he's a looser. The only good thing about him is, that he's never at home anyway. OK, Lucius may be an asshole, but he'd give anything up for his family -- and that is what matters for me. I can't use an idiot who choses to be a hero over his family. I definitely couldn't use a Lupin, who runs into the war and says that his son will understand why he had to get himself killed. Because, if I were this son, I'd never understand!

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

LadyMortiana In reply to periwinkle-blue [2007-10-16 20:01:26 +0000 UTC]

God, you're damn right! I always liked Lupin but when he wanted to go with Harry and left his pregnant! wife I thought: You stupid bastard! He deserved the wigging from Harry. And yeah, think that Teddy maybe accept the fact that his parents died "for the good reason" but he'd never understand why they put that f*ckin good reason above him, their son.
Gosh, you totally criticized senior weasel XD But I must admit, that maybe I like Weasley's Family also, but you're total right about Arthur's behaviour - he's social looser. And damn, maybe I like Weasleys but for the Malfoys I have an enourmously sentiment. Simply, I love them.
And I forgot to mention that I love facial expressions on your drawing.

"The road to Hell is paved with good intentions" - this quote remnds me J.W. Goethe's "Faust" (because we're working with this book in school right now ) when Mephisto says that he's "a small part which desires bad but still acts good " (maybe it's not gramatically correct, sorry ) because in most of situations people who acts evil understands their mistakes and correct them - so it's something opposite to your quotation. And also from "Faust": "Till he aim, man wanders about" - till we're aiming, we're also wandering. When we stop aiming we find peace and pure good. Lucius was just aiming and he found peace in his family. Awww, I've so much sentiment for them
Lol, what a long *and hillarous* comment. Hope you won't sleep nor faint while reading it.

Thank you for the long comment... I always think, that I write much to log ones

Goethe? In what language do you read it in Poland - in German? Because you can quote it in German, I'm Swiss I want to read these books one -- I... erm... used to skip my literature lessons a bit too often *hides*

I know, I was a bit mean with Arthur. Actually, I hate Molly, who believes to know what's best for everyone. But she is only interested in appearance and not in what would make her children happy. Fred and George as clerks???!!!!

I understand, why Arthur is never at home with that wife waiting for him, who doesn't understand his hobby and naggs all the time because it is not good for appearance. I'm sorry for him most of the time. But still, he's almost never at home and therefore I disagree with JKR - he's not a good father! Arthur is not bad, but Lucius is better. And, I used to like the Weasleys before JKR made them the personification of the perfect family. They're not. They're far a way from beeing eprfect. But JKR never wrote about these issues. She has to potential but not the backbone to really go into things. I don't know how many times I screamed YOU BLOODY COWARD! while reading DH...

This is very nice, and sweet.. Of course, Lucius wants his son to be safe, and Narcissa too, that's why they aren't totally faithful with Voldy when their son is concerned ! It's pleasant to see Lucius in another way thant the very-bad-guy.
Thank you very much for your

Probably. I have really mixed feelings for this drawing tough, because I am very aware that I didn't really draw Lucius, but the father of my aupair-family. He would be deeply offended, if he knew that, since he spent all his life to fight people like Lucius. But there is a strain of thought behind this and I've forgotten it, but it was important... there were things that this guy has told me that have turned my views upon good and evil upside-down. He was a real hero, like in the movies, except that he was not at all like in the movies. He is easily the most interesting but also most scary person I've met in my whole life...

No perent want their child to become a mass murderer. And your idea about the good intentions is so true- Harry is a living example. He always wants to do good.

And about the drawing: I like that fact that Lucius's face fist the popular Darco image. Jason Iaacs interpretation of Malfoy senior is nice and all but it's good to see something diffrent every now end then. And you never disapiont me!
And his thoughtful expression, ah!

Isaacs just perfect as LM, except that he doesn't look like LM is described in the books... same for Rickman actually. That's probably why these discusions about the actor for Bella beeing very much inappropriate go incredibily on my nerves: Before I've seen How's-her-name-again? play her role, I just can't judge!

awwww I love it! I agree with that. No father would really want his son to become one of them (well, maybe Bella. But that's her.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

periwinkle-blue In reply to NikkiFlinn [2006-11-10 13:23:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... but... she might change...
Her love to LV was absolute, but he betrayed her because he passed off himself as a pureblood. For Lucius this isn't so much of a problem because he would use any way to reach his buts. But Bella's absolute loyality requires something equally absolute back, there's nothing moderate about her feelings. In HBP she's already put her sister before Voldemort and she has given Draco the key to future betrayal.

Thanks... I just wish that some fanfic writer would think like that... but they never seem to bother about Draco's complicated yet interesting relationship with his father... and in consequence I hardly read fics... I'd like to read about these things which canon hints at and makes the characters so deep. But soap-style Hogwarts romances? ... no comment ...

I have read a few good Lucius centered fanfics. But most of them don't really get into Draco. One did but it was written quite a few years ago and was before the war was established in the books.

periwinkle-blue In reply to emif [2006-11-11 15:58:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, I love Chthonya's fics--her Lucius is simply perfect! Although, she doesn't write Draco very well... though maybe it just appears like this, because Lucius is so perfect? Anyway, I don't read her fics because of Draco, so it doesn't really bother me.

My critique was more for Draco-fic writers, because when I read a D/Hr, D/G or D/H fic I would want to see Draco care about the opinion of his father. That Draco admires his father is canon, but I know only a couple of fics in which the authors bothers to write one or two sentences about this...

When I started with it, my lines zigzaged everywhere except where I wanted them... you really have to get used to it, but once you've got the knack on it, it's easy. You have to be relaxed, because when your hand is cramped to lines will look like it. And you have to draw the lines fast--and therefore you'll have to use ctrl X all the time. When you draw to slow you get zigzag, because the tablet as a lot more sensitive than a mouse and transmitts every unsteadyness from your hand on the screen...

When do you get it?
