Description
Fandom: Harry PotterFic: INVICTUS [link]
Author: Chthonia
I shiver. My mind desperately scans for an escape I know isn't there.
He releases my hair, running a finger down to my jaw and curling it under my chin, holding my head in position as he lowers his until his cheek is almost touching mine.
I'm trembling, though I'm willing myself to turn to stone.
Or is it him that's trembling?
His left hand curls around my waist. "It could be so easy, you know..."
And for a brief crazy moment I could just lean back, let myself be held by his strength instead of fighting it, and let him carry me into oblivion and do whatever he wants because any sort of contact would make me feel less isolated in these blank places in my mind and though it's horrible and I know it's wrong, the wrongness feels right, somehow.
I always thought that particular scene fascinating ...
As a matter of fact, the whole chapter is fascinating: Lucius makes clear - without ever calling it by it's name - that he wants Hermione to seduce him. The whole business never works out, because Lucius fails to keep still. (He really cannot bear to be touched by a Mudblood). In a dark and horrible way, this is almost ... no funny is definitely the wrong word!
You cannot call it "rape", because Hermione gives her consent first. It's violent though, mostly because Lucius cannot deal with his feelings that he doesn't realize in first time. Obviously it is Hermione who pays the price. Its intriguing, but IMO also the most cruel chapter so far. When I've read it the first time, I couldn't get it out of my head for two day, and I still have to think about it from time to time.

You can call it rape. He's kidnapped her - even if she says 'yes' - it's due to the threat of her life, her parents safety and her memories. You can never call it real consent.

A choice between that and death - and this is a choice. It may be a choice between two bad things, but nevertheless it is a choice. For some reason I can imagine that this is important to Lucius. Because of that "memory" of his, I got the feeling that he feels very against rape. Since he feels sexually attracted to Hermione, he would do anything to find an excuse to not have to call it rape. Even though this is a very thin line ...
And - that's very important - I only use this type of argumentation in the limitations of INVICTUS. It's a fictional story. What I love best about that story is, that it makes me think about these things, about the relationship of the victim and her abuser, and that sometimes, it makes appear the abuser almost like the victim of his victim ... this isn't real life, tough, and most definitely not my opinion in real life. In real life, I'd see the case like you and I wouldn't make such a distinction.

Oh yes, it is intense! It is probably the most intense text I've ever read, including real books. Not always a positive feeling, since the feeling doesn't leave me when I've finished any new chapter and I can't read anything else for 2 or 3 days, because I don't get that story out of my head.

I read a book like that once. you should totally go check it out, it's called The Swarm although that's the translated title. But there's this one scene where I swear to god, I stopped breathing while I was reading it because it was just that intense. And it was something you knew was coming. I mean, if you read the cover flap of the book, you know the scene is coming but you still find it hard to breathe while the scene is going on. Check it out. you won't be disappointed.

I need books ... two of my four favourite authors are only publishing a new book in autumn, the third this summer, and what the fourth is doing ... no idea.
I've looked up The Swarm, is it this one? [link]
Not sure what to think about it, it sounds horribly Anti-American. At least the one star-reviewers are upset about this, and they sound intelligent enough.

The Swarm is...well, yeah, it's a bit anti-American. A lot of bad stuff happens to America but Europe gets its ass kicked as well.
If you're in the mood for a trilogy, you should totally check out The Quickening by Fiona McIntosh. So damn good! You can't read it without falling in love with at least one of the characters. I mean, even the villian is awesome. I want to skin him alive and make him eat that skin but god is he awesome.

I really like your style and it's quite refreshing to see Lucius so angular and 'unrefined' compared to the pretty-boy art of him one commonly sees around here; and this really captures the intensity of the fic!

Thank you. Also, I've already read chapter 18. I was checking her LJ every day lately
Pretty-boy art? I hardly ever see Lucius in fanart. You can have Draco in every flavor, but Lucius seems to be rather rare. But I'm not so into HP fandom anymore, I might have missed a lot.

The colouration is great
I have no clue how you did this colouration it looks strangely fascinating
but somehow the sketch lost the aspect of her not struggling away, now it looks as if she just wants to go

Thank you
I like the coloration too and hope that I will remember how I did it when I try another sketch. Also your right with the comment about the sketch having lost an aspect. I always think that my sketches loose something after they're colored ....

oh, no. i've never heard of it. i just read the little bit of it that you put in the comments
i'd love to read the whole thing cause i love dark stuff (i just can't draw it very well) but if that was in chapter 17 then its way too long for me to read, i wouldn't have the time on the internet.
what the hell. have you got a link?

I'd draw a lot more scenes, if I could draw easily dark stuff. It's my favorite fic. But as it is, I need several months to complete one drawing.

I have to warn you, tough: Don't start to read it, if you don't have time, because you won't be able to stop reading! When I've found it years ago, I had to read the whole night! And it was two chapters shorter back then (You get something like 1 new chapter all 1.5 years ... the author updates very, very, veeeery slowly.)

isn't it finished? ok, maybe i'll just look at your lovely pictures then. i don't wanna start reading something if it not finished cause i'll just forget about it and not finish it when its complete.

Oh, you wouldn't need to worry about forgetting this fic. Forgetting is just no option! It's haunting and there are picture you never get out of your head again. And I'm not the only one: Chthonia has started this fic in 2003(!) and people just keep coming back whenever she updates.
On another topic: Is Cassie's third book good? I need a new book. I'm out of books. I may get crazy anytime soon! And Mistfuls' book isn't available before June, 1st. Do you know her? She's a friend of Cassie's, but personally, I always thought her the much more talented author.

no, who's mistful. i need a new book to read after city of glass
and, the last book was good but not great. it mostly just dragged on. the last half of the book was the final battle and it dragged on for two days. it was very thought out and was a good ending (very epic) but i just thought it could be in a longer time and for the final battle not to drag out so long.
the first half of the book was very good though.
though, you do get swamped by the jace/clary. i was well and truly sick of it by the end. i was confused as to what happened to all the other pairings to be honest. it not that i don't like jace/clary but theres only so much i can take, i wanted to hear more about simon or alec/magnus, but i was dissapointed.

Oh, too bad! You seemed to like the book so much ...
Mistul ... her real name is Sarah Rees Brennan and her first fic was Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing ... Rat? It's the fic with the coffee obsessed Draco Malfoy, whom I like to draw sometimes
She has written a lot of stuff ever since and her characters are amazing! No one is really bad, and no one is really good. They are just different and they have to learn to talk instead of hitting each other. (But there is a long to that point, including a lot of shouting, fighting, temper tantrums, and sometimes even crying.)
Her book is called The Daemons Lexicon and her LJ is here: [link]
If you need something to read now: [link] It's a short story of hers and a hilarious take at The Frog Prince. Already the title is very original: An Old-Fashioned Unicorn's Guide to Courtship

*Yes-the 1.5 years can be painfully slow: Knowing that it's finished and just sitting on the computer, taunting me with Hermione's fate is making me antsy

The waiting isn't that bad, I usually "forget" it after a while (or sometimes I can't and then I just re-read it ) ... but your right, it's the knowing that it's finished that makes the waiting so much worse! I guess we can see where Lucius has it from

I will give you credit for drawing me to Invictus last year with your Ch.15 drawing-it really intrigued me! And this one looks great as well. I really like the contrast you've set up in this picture. The difference in their hair color and skin tones is very vivid.
You also captured the height difference pretty well-it is hard to draw someone leaning over a bit with distorting the proportions-but you pulled it off! You were able to forshorten his neck without making it look like he has no neck-so kudos there.
I found this scene to be fascinating too-mostly because I wanted to know what was going on inside Lucius' head throughout this chapter. His actions contradict his words completely. And like you, I am dying to see Ch. 18, especially since it's finished You should definitely do more drawings from this chapter!

I'm happy that you like my favorite fic too I like if I can make people read my beloved books ... or fics
And I'm so glad that you noticed the height difference big! It (and Hermione's expression) was terribly difficult and is they main reason why the sketch took me so long. I'd never imagined that anyone would notice it. Thank you
