Description
The Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer was a rare experimental variant of the Spartan Assault Tank. The Cerberus was designed by the Mechanicum to mount a Neutron Laser Projector in the massive internal space of the Spartan’s chassis. This is a potent and unstable variant of the Neutron Laser Cannon adopted by the Astartes’ Sabre Tank Hunters and the Valdor Tank Hunters. The Neutron Laser Battery was scaled down to create the smaller and more stable Neutron Laser Cannon. As the Cerberus was used to field-test the first Neutron-based weaponry, they were not as widely mass-produced as the other Spartan variants.

The 11th legion was one of the first of the space marine legions to receive the Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer in significant quantities. However, because of the exotic nature of Neutron Laser technology, the Cerberus was sidelined for more reliable weapon systems.

Armament

The Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer is armed with a forward-firing Neutron Laser Projector, an experimental weapon retro-engineered from the battlefield remains of Age of Technology wreckage.

The Neutron Laser Projector is an ill-understood weapon. The Mechanicum of Mars knew only that it was more potent than any weapon system of its size, comparable only to Titan-sized weapons. The weapon fires a powerful directed energy beam capable of crippling or outright destroying most armored vehicles, including Battle Titans.

The weapon is unstable. If the weapon’s energy beam cannot penetrate its target, it is prone to dangerous feedback that can cause serious harm to its operators. The Neutron Laser Projector and the Atomantic-Arc Reactors required to power it can cause an apocalyptic explosion if damaged or destroyed.

Besides destroying nearby vehicles and buildings, this explosion can also disintegrate any trace of the Cerberus itself.

The Cerberus can also be outfitted with sponson-mounted Heavy Bolters or Lascannons. For added firepower and defense, the Cerberus can also carry a Pintle-mounted twin-linked Bolter (Combi-Bolter) or other Combi-Weapon, a Heavy Flamer, a Heavy Bolter, or a Multi-Melta.

The vehicle can also be equipped with a Hunter-Killer Missile Launcher, armored ceramite plating, Smoke Launchers, or a Searchlight.

For extra protection from enemy fire, the vehicle always has a Flare Shield due to the instabilities of its primary weapon and power source.
