Description The Land Raider Prometheus is a variant of the Land Raider used by the Legiones Astartes as an assault transport and heavy main battle tank. The Prometheus is a command vehicle equipped with additional sensors and communications equipment.

The vehicle features an advanced Vox signal booster allowing the Prometheus to coordinate units at an extended range, including ground-to-ground and ground-to-orbit. Several features of the Land Raider Prometheus are like those of the Damocles Command Rhino. It can act as a command-and-control center for an Astartes strike force if a Damocles is not deployed.

History
The exact origins of the Land Raider Prometheus remain a mystery. The striking similarity between it and the Land Raider Tartarus has led some to believe it to be a variant of the Land Raider Tartarus. Although no conclusive evidence has been found to support this claim, there is at least one archival report that depicts the vehicle or else one that closely resembles it during the early years of the Great Crusade.

Some scholars think it was first developed in the forges of the Dragon Warriors. Others, however, believe it was the Ultramarines who made the Prometheus. As one of the largest Legions, they may have required a vehicle with a broader range of capabilities than the Damocles Command Rhino. There is even the theory that the Landites — the followers of Arkhan Land — created the Land Raider Prometheus.

Land Raider Prometheus is used by the 11th Legion to coordinate maneuvers with larger maneuver units.

Design Features

Outwardly, the most visible difference between the more common patterns of the Land Raider and the Land Raider Prometheus is its weaponry. It has the Quad Heavy Bolters in each sponson replacing the Land Raider’s Lascannon to provide a storm of fire to cut swathes through enemy infantry and light vehicles. It is standard practice that all Prometheus Land Raiders are armed with a pintle-mounted Storm Bolter for close-in anti-infantry defense.

This is a substitute for the hull-mounted Heavy Bolters, which are removed to make space for the extra Vox net that facilitates the vehicle’s primary role as a command node. Despite the lethality of this weapon configuration, the vehicle’s primary task is not to provide fire support but to serve as a front-line command vehicle. It is fitting since Legiones Astartes leaders are strategists and warriors. Rather than being behind the lines, they are at the front lines of combat.

As a dedicated command transport, the Prometheus uses an extensive array of communications and sensor equipment. All Land Raiders carry a tactical holo-tank and squad status displays. The Prometheus augments this with a long-range signal Amplex, a two-way signal booster, for squad-to-squad, ground-to-air and ground-to-orbit sensorium, and Vox-communion.

The Damocles Command Rhino has some similarities with the Prometheus. A multi-spectral ground surveillance Auspex is also integrated for locating and tracking enemy forces and secure multi-band communications for coordinating with allied forces.

They can share the information through the array of sensors with other Imperial forces. The Prometheus has an advantage over the Damocles Rhino because it is a front-line combat vehicle. Unlike a dedicated command Rhino, the Prometheus is a peerless front-line command transport worthy of the most bellicose Legiones Astartes commanders.

Advanced targeting and communication systems take up some of the interior room within the vehicle, and the standard Land Raider’s hull-mounted twin-linked Heavy Bolters are replaced. The Land Raider Prometheus has a reduced capacity compared to a standard Land Raider. The Prometheus can only transport up to ten Space Marines or five Terminators. Prometheus Land Raiders are always equipped with Storm Bolters, a pintle-mounted missile launcher, a multi-melta attachment, a searchlight, and smoke launchers for additional defense against enemy attacks.
