Description
check this out guys! final version of this dragon, this time with toes and claws as well as better shaping of the wings and tail.70 cm square of craft paper, 35 cm long when finished.
it's funny how a little detail like toes can easily bump up the difficulty level and time necessary for completion. in theory, it's just a few extra folds, in reality, i went from folding a toeless dragon in about 45 minutes to folding a toed dragon in about 5 hours. it's crazy

The end result is pretty fantastic. The head-tongue assembly looks great, and the tail spikes are probably easier than I think they would be.

thanks! It only is a final fold for the time being, turns out i'd folded it prematurely. folding it large made it more obvious how relatively small the wings are in comparison with the body. I had a hunch this would happen and an idea how to fix it if need be. I've just folded a little doodle to test whether the solution works as intended, and it does, and i am much happier with the proportions of the doodle than i am with this version up here. An awesome dragon cannot be awesome without its awesome large wings in my opinion, so this is an area where this version is still quite lacking...
Β There is one little hiccup though, it's going to be more difficult to add claws to this new version. compromises, compromises everywhere!
The tail spikes are probably my favourite thing about this model. (I did take visual cues from an already existing origami dragon: farm7.staticflickr.com/6146/60β¦ i've obtained the spikes differently) They do take some work and require quite a lot of tweaking after they are folded to make them look right, but they were probably the easiest detail to achieve on this model. definitely less tedious than the head, which is one of the things i would like to improve still.

I can see that. The lower jaw sticks out a little bit and the horns look like they're connected to the neck. It's still an amazing shape and to get that tongue is awesome. I agree that the wings do look a little small, and I didn't notice until you pointed them out.
I also have no idea what the hell I'm talking about other than that, this is like some kind of impossible super wizardry to me.

no worries about knowing or not knowing about origami, constructive criticism and ideas for improvement can come from anybody! that's the main reason why i post photos on the internet, so people can give suggestions or ideas, and it often takes a non-origamist to point out something that makes me go "gah! why didn't i think of that!" I often turn to creative non-origamists (sculptors and painters) for inspiration, so it goes both ways! anyone can chime in their two cents, that's where creative growth happens, after all!
no worries about it seeming like wizardry, i've been folding intensively for over 12 years and i still can't shake that feeling away, myth confirmed! Β
