Description This is the second group of marine predators, unrelated to this group I've worked on previously:

This is not the final design yet, it's still a WIP.

I want to add dorsal fins to this, but I don't want to make it look too much shark-or dolphin-like, but i think I've found a way how to get around that.

These are not the final designs.

I love how it has both hindflippers and horizontal tail flukes. I also like the Anhanguera-like mouth, seems very efficient for catching prey. It looks relly great! One question though, are those nostrils near the tail?

yeah. those are the "exhalation nostrils" and the "inhalation nostrils" are on the head.

I quite changed my mind about the head design in general, but I will make sure to use this jaw design on different animals, some relatives of the lower one here: [link] are great candidates for that

Yes. Many. I am just at the beginning. I am thinking of new body shapes now, and refining the animals which I have already drawn, but i still have most of the work ahead!

Hah You're not the first one to say that though ^^

To say something, changes are planned!

I think I could make a crest-like thing between the rear nostrills which could substitute a dorsal fin. fast fish like pikes tend to have the dorsal fin close to the tail, and it could help me to avoit excessive "earthification" as a result of making the dorsal fin in a "usual" possition

Thanks bro!

Hmmm... I know it might look like a river dolphin because it also doesn't have a dorsal fin, but I thought that adding one will make it too dolphin-like. The sole fact that they flap their tail in the same manner...

I would also like to change these to be promarly "tentacle-using" when catching prey to make them further different from the other unrelated group of marine predators. I started to think of them as having quite small beak entirely covered by the tentacles which would make it look like having two very muscular lips that open to the side. The more I'm thinking about it, the more I think this should be a universal trait for the majority of neognathids... (see the tree of life)

In this case, though, the "tentacle lips" will extend well over the beak to the front, and they will have broadenned ends with hooks/teeth for grasping prey, similar to what squids on earth have.

Yeah that sounds cool sorry about that it's just it seemed similar to dolphins the tentacles lips sound like a good idea any thing else to submit?

No, not yet, but later today! I tried to work on the "seals" more, but without success, and I also wanted to have a leaping predator which would move similarly to a kangaroo (predaroo ), but without success, that idea still needs a on of work, but I already know that the hindlegs will look more like tails than hindlegs, so it will look more like if it's using "twin tail" for walking, but as I said, it still needs more work.

I tried to sketch another "xenocetacean" just before replying to you now, and i still have a couple things to work on, but enerally, I'd say it's getting there

the lips are funny, they make the head even more dolphin like, because there are no "cruel and bare teeth" showing like on this current one, but they also make it look alien, because they open sideways

I tried to give it two "sort of dorsal fins", one is a triangular crest on the head, and the second is between the nostrills on the tail and it's supported by vertebral spines, so it's like a spinosaur sail in small scale, but the supporting "struts" aren't obvious to the naked eye from the outsode, the "fin" is smooth.

I still need to place the eye differently, because it would interfere with the jaw joint mechanism if it were as I drew it here.

Because the rear nostrills are on the rear end of the body, there is an enormous free space between them for ginormic lungs, which, along with a much more efficient "hemoglobin" in the blood, would allow it to spend incredible durations of time underwater, and some large ones could perform dives to incredible depths in pursuit of prey

No luck with seals you'll get ther remember in my dream I also had seal like animals I think they were more fish than mammal mind you as for the predaroo well than sounds awesome i hope to get some of my drawings done today so I can sub more still can't think of anything to work on though as far as new creatures
