Before anyone mentions anything about the NFL here...I am an EAGLES fan. Though I should still respect my new hometown team whether they suck or not. This was one of the few times I have been able to photograph a cardinal. They never seem to stay put for long and are never in the spot I want. Finally this male decided to head into the "light" and spend some time just staying perched giving me a few good shots.Male northern cardinal- Arizona

Ohh I'm jealous! I've been trying to get a good picture of a cardinal for ages. They love to stay just out of my camera's reach, or hidden in branches and leaves. This is a fantastic picture. The focus and dof is perfect. Do you use a tripod for your bird images?

Thanks!, most of my images are hand held. Unless I have a subject that is quite cooperative such as this cardinal, I will use the tripod.

That's awesome though. I'm not from there, but my mom is from south new jersey, and i've been visiting Philly every summer my entire life and was raised with Philadelphia teams. I'll always be Philly fan

I miss a few things from back east...mainly the philly cheesesteaks and tasty kakes. theres a few places you can get em out here but not as good as back east of course. And all new jersey folk (at least from south jersey) are philly fans. north jersey can suck it

Very nice shot! These guys are hard to find, but for some reason, i've been seeing them more often lately. I didn't know you are an Eagles fan...that's awesome! I'm a die hard Eagles fan, and i'm wearing my Brian Dawkins shirt right now (makes me so sad that he isn't an Eagle anymore. He will always be an Eagle in my heart though).

Thanks man...I have a couple that come to my feeders everyday so im fairly lucky...but yes I am an eagles fan...born and raised in Philadelphia, all of my sports love goes to the eagles, phillies, sixers, and even sometimes the flyers. My brother has a dawkins jersey and 3 different mcnabb jersey's. He is much more of a fan than I am though lol

Beautiful, it is always difficult to make great pic of birds, from the moment they hear something they are gone.
Colour: it is a beautiful bird maybe with "helping" the colours a little bit,so the bird is jumping out of the pic than

Thanks, I did saturate the reds just a bit already. It was overcast and I didn't want the bird to look unnaturally red (it wasn't that red to begin with)

bravo! he looks so tiny and cute ^_^ do you edit your photos digitally? i feel like it would appeal to me more if the red was a little darker. either way, it's a lovely shot.

Thank you, yes all my photos are digitally processed. The bird was more of a rusty red through the body but nice and bright around the head so I saturated the bird just a bit to keep it natural looking

Actually he's really smart. He does research on endocrine disruptors in juvenile alligators from a polluted lake in Florida. He was working on a PhD the last time I talked to him; he may be done by now. I just don't think he cares about birding.
