Description After a magical moment at cape royal in the morning, we headed to our final spot of the trip which was point sublime. Apparently, the quicker route to get here was in the worst shape it's been in for quite some time, so we had to take the alternate route. I'm not sure how bad the original route was, but the route we took was pretty rough on my 2 wheel drive vehicle (Gotta get a 4x4 now). After almost two hours and being stopped by rangers on the way we finally arrived at our campsite. After setting up camp we all headed out to the point with a few hours to spare. We were surprised to find a few others at the point, but nothing that would take away from the beauty and experience unlike the south rim where your shoulder to shoulder at most view points. The clouds were moving extremely fast, and we were worried we wouldn't have many clouds at sunset, but since we had internet access we checked our phones and the weather data and found a storm was heading northeast. That would put some clouds in front of us for sure and the western horizon would remain clear. Finally, the clouds emerged and the sun was low enough to shoot. When the sun finally hit the horizon, the sky lit up like a kaleidoscope of color which reflected onto the canyon walls. We even had the foot of a rainbow appear on the horizon (you can see it here although it is faint). The light lasted for another hour as we all were content on this magnificent sunset. We returned back to camp, ate, charged batteries, and then my friend and I returned to the point for some night photography which you may see in the near future.

Point sublime- Grand Canyon.

Gorgeous! Went there 17 years ago, but had no photography skills at the time. Nice to see the clouds put on a show for you!

I am quite tickled to have found you and your photography on DA Love the descriptions! I like to hear how you got the shot...not just that but what it took from beginning to end.

Fantastic colors! I would have never guessed the canyons would reflect the sky colors as well as this and this had to be pretty awe-inspiring in person. I've only been to the Grand Canyon once--mid-day with no clouds and about a billion others at the south rim viewing area so I really haven't seen anything. Until I can go there again, I shall have to view it from your work Well done!

Thank you! And thank you for taking the time to read the descriptions. A photograph tells a story, but that's only half of the story, the other half is always the adventure to go after it. If you ever make it back to the grand canyon I suggest taking the longer drive for the north rim (depending on where your coming from). If not then the desert view area on the east end is much better than the village area.

Just keep in mind if your planning around that time the road to the north rim will be closed so your best bet might be the desert view area on the south rim.
