A wild crazy thought I just had. Maybe Zia doesn't care because the changes only affects females? The other girls are going to struggle with relationships but she lucked out with her transformation. I do feel sorry for them. Hopefully there are brighter people with sympathy to help.

I don't know whether I'm the only person who can tell the difference between a mean-spirited joke and just being an asshole, but Zia is falling pretty cleanly into the latter here. (Compare page 16, 'Signs', where she's much closer to the former camp)
