Eh, I think it depends. The "after" pictures are a heck of a lot more dynamic, but the "before" pictures look like they take place a split-second before the "after photos. I.E. the guy sees the gun, but his survival mechanism hasn't entirely processed what's going on.

Interesting point. While I'm sure one could cleverly work in the "delayed reaction" scenario, for comedic or dramatic effect, the point of this tutorial is creating the most intense possible fast acting eye-candy action.
Maybe that sounds kinda shallow, but hey, we're artists. Our very job is to make shit LOOK cool.

I like it, short and straight to the point, and who wouldn't understand this when you have great descriptions

Haha yes! Nice tutorial, especially about the reaction to guns (or anything scary or ass kicking)

Yup. ACTUALLY. Lulz. No disrespect. It just blows away those pansy tutorial books with all the people doing the same boring stuff that no one plans to draw anyway.

Hah, because none of that other shit helps at all, right?

Totally. Kids these days need to know how to draw all the cool stuff that people actually WANT to look at--such as a massive kick to the face.

Or a guy shitting his pants when a strange man is pointing a gun at his face.

This is very informative.
I should give this a try soon, that way I'm drawing more than static poses for conceptual art.

i be digging. though after reading what lesteveman wrote, i gotta say, i do like the 'superman' trailing face punch/kick...i.e., the face remains attached to the fist/foot until the punch is finished...and i think that it's equally viable.

i know. what i'm saying is that the old way is cool too. especially if the body leaves the ground.

the way you had it before...the way the other guy described it, i'm assuming the head was still upright?

lesteveman [2010-03-09 21:23:14 +0000 UTC]
i dunno, the first one still doesn't look quite right, the guy should have his his head snapped back. there he looks like he ran into a flying kick statue

lesteveman In reply to PhiTuS [2010-03-09 21:42:47 +0000 UTC]
yea, it's like the kick has stopped his facial forward movement instead of sending him back

yea, i think so. i remember reading this book on animation and it said repeatedly that you don't wanna show the exact moment of impact, just show the anticipation then the reaction. gives it more power. though i dunno if that's for animation or not, but i feel like it adds to the extremeness
