Description That's right. I've been slowly doing this for a while. No narration this time, but that saves me work, and that keeps this simple. Special guest appearance of a JuJi clone at the end.

MORE INFO

The AR-15 and AK-47 have very different mechanisms. The AR-15 is more complex and was known to be rather unreliable in the past. Modern variants are still used today, with much emphasis on customization and much improved reliability.
The AK on the other hand is much more simpler and can work even when thrown in dirt, water or mud. It is used in many countries around the world and is known as the "rebel" or "terrorist" weapon.

The very first known assault rifle was developed by the Nazis in WWII, known as the StG-44: [link] It was to combine the characteristics of submachine guns and full size rifles (known as using an "intermediate cartridge")

On the subject of supersonic bullets, rifles cannot be silenced when fitted with sound suppressors for this reason. Suppressors can still alter the sound and muzzle flash of the rifle.

The name AR-15 refers to both the Armalite AR-15 before it was sold off to Colt as the M-16 AND the civilian Colt AR-15 rifle.

Very nicely done! Very concise.

BTW, Old Man Kalashnikov is pissed off that his rifle is now considered a "Terrorist" weapon, as he had developed it for the defense of his homeland. Not sure how he feels about it being a "Rebel" weapon, I would guess it depends on the rebels in question...

Well, as a rifle, AK is certainly in the mindset of the world now. It's on a nation's flag, for $Deity's sake!

The last time I checked, I remembered seeing something about design problems with the bullpup configuration, mostly with the acting being located behind the trigger.

Has this been corrected so that the only real problem is where spent shells are ejected?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhiTuS In reply to AnimeFreak40K [2011-02-07 21:36:40 +0000 UTC]

Not sure exactly, but recent bullpup designs have solved the issue of spent shell casings (such as the FN F2000 which actually has an ejection port near the front of the gun)

AnimeFreak40K In reply to PhiTuS [2011-02-08 03:27:59 +0000 UTC]

Interesting...

This now makes me wonder how that mechanism works given that the firing chamber is behind the grip...

I managed to find a diagram of a Kel-tec RFB rifle, which has a very similar ejection system: [link]

AnimeFreak40K In reply to PhiTuS [2011-02-08 04:12:45 +0000 UTC]

Ok, now *that* is neat!

Though I wonder how often it would jam trying to send shells out the front like that? Still, that is a really neat idea.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhiTuS In reply to AnimeFreak40K [2011-02-08 04:19:41 +0000 UTC]

Good question. Maybe it would jam quite a bit.

I saw some videos focusing on the ejection port of the f2000. It looks like some stick around in the tube, 'cause sometimes they don't come out immediately when it shoots, and then after a couple shots it just barfs the shells out.

I have fired the M16 during my stay in California. Turns out that (maybe due to my lack of skills) the bullets don't alway travel in a perfect spiral, but sometime will flip around. That'll leave a oblong shaped bullet holes.

I only experienced this with the M16. The revolvers and the handguns didn't have this effect.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhiTuS In reply to Zansake [2010-04-17 04:06:13 +0000 UTC]

Hm...I think the 5.56mm bullets that the M-16 fires do that. They have a tendency to tumble when hitting a target.
