Description From the Metroid NES Manual-
Rio:
These are also pretty strong. They zoom down to attack Samus from the upper walls.
The red ones are stronger than the yellow ones.

The Rio are are flying creatures that use their long arms and claws to catch prey. At the top of the food chain in Brinstar, these creatures are highly adept at picking up the movement of other organisms. Unlike other flying creatures, the Rio aren't afraid of gliding very close to the ground, their nimble bodies able to traverse even some of the most narrow passages.
