Description
My entry for 's Chozo and Luminoth art contest. Also wanted to point out something interesting to any Alien fans. The Metroid series almost parallels the Alien movies in terms of plot and characters. The most obvious being the lead female protagonists, Samus and Ripley. A chart can be seen here:

But one aspect of both the first Metroid and Alien that has been overlooked is the appearance of Alien fossils. So I believe that the Chozo are indeed inspired by the Space Jockey. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Critiques are welcomed as always.

Your background is amazing! Personally I have a bad time with backgrounds, but steadily getting better. If you don't me asking, is there a reason why you always use such dark coloring? I mean it's stunning when you do! Just I was wondering if there was a meaning behind it? I'm one of those, "have to look for the deeper meaning of things" kind of person.

Thanks! Just continue to study perspective and all that and you'll be good to go!
Eh, no meaning really, I just like drawing dark subject matter.
I am trying to get my colors a little lighter though, in past pieces the really dark colors tend to obscure my pencilwork. That's why the Chozo itself looks lighter and has blockier colors than my usual style.

Ah ok. Just was wondering. And thanks so much for the advice! BTW, I don't think the darkness of the pics deters from the pic at all!

I meant more in some of my previous pieces, the darkness detracts a little.

What's so funny?
Thanks! I think of the chozos as being fossils rather than statues, so this one is just sometime before it was fossilized.

The way you spelled Ridley. XD
It sounds funny. XD
γ©γγγγγΎγγ¦οΌ (Your welcome!) ^_^
I thought of them as statues...before I played Smash Bros, I thought they were fossils or some kind of robots lol.
But fossils do look like rock most of the time...it could be possible that they could also be fossils. (Could be both at the same time O_O) lol

Whoa.
We see the Chozo only a little. And when we do, they are usually sitting, dormant, yet we know that they were once a powerful race that could beat the living hell out of just about anything, had they chosen to fight rather than to subside peacefully.
Your piece shows something that I have never seen shown before--never have I seen someone depict a Chozo standing. It's quite...different. But it's a good different. What really strikes me about this one is the dark appearance--through dark shades of color, you've managed to keep a dark feeling about this one. I love it. Nice touch, that.

That's what I love about these guys, and like my description they remind me so much of the Space Jockey from Ridley Scott's Alien.
Where would Metroid be without it's dark atmosphere? I think in recent years with the prime games, some of it was lost.

I noticed that. Corruption had it's moments, though, so I'm hopeful that the darkness won't be lost completely.
Metroid's closeness to the Alien movies is just another reason why I love it so much.

I haven't played any of the Prime games, so I'm judging based on what I've seen.
Same here!

Haha, not my chart. I came up with the Space Jockey comparison myself though.
