Description
This old bloke was walking onto the moors. The sky was dramatic, and the wind was fresh. There is nothing for miles. I bet he felt like he owned the world.I liked the way the sun reflected on his face, and the clouds threw shadows on his back.

Thanks a lot. I only took it because I was parked up, and I saw this old guy walking up. He was plodding along so slowly, but looked like he hadn't a care. I felt really happy for him. Walking up to enjoy the moors at an age when many are content to sit in the armchair.

This is taken just outside Bolton in Lancashire, England. It is an industrial area in the Northwest of the country and where I have lived all my life.

Ha! When I posted it someone said that he was not wearing appropriate shoes, and implied that we were a bit woosy in the UK in that respect, so I zoomed in and found out they were the same ones I use for fell walking. He looked like a fit old bloke. I hope I can be doing that at his age.

Thanks a lot. This is actually squeezed between two filthy industrial town. The only bit of beauty in the area. I have lived round here all my life, and have been trying to escape for years.

Mm, gorgeous shot. I wish we had scenery like that here.
I'd ask how you managed to get the colours and details so clean and crisp, but I already know that the answer would result in one of two things: I'd either get confused by the technical jargon, or I'd have to drop an entire month's pay on a better camera.

Like Nigel said, you can achieve great results from old cameras. Quality beyond the greatest DSLR has been around for years, DSLRS are just for convenience.

That is a perfect comment. We are seduced into spending a fortune on the latest technology, when a camera is just a light tight box with an evolved monkey standing behind it. It's all about the insight and foresight of the person holding the damned thing.

Ha! No tricks, and I use a very cheap and old camera that has very few megapixels. I only have one long lens since I broke my other. The shot was just grabbed and the colours were due to the sun being nice and considerate.

Thank you for that great comment. I can see faults in the photo that someone has already condemned its DD award for, but I just liked the feeling of the old chap walking into the light. It was a bit inspiring.
