This old bloke was walking onto the moors. The sky was dramatic, and the wind was fresh. There is nothing for miles. I bet he felt like he owned the world.I liked the way the sun reflected on his face, and the clouds threw shadows on his back.

feels clogged up... too many details on the corners.. colours are dull and average.. forcefully darkened area to the left and around the sky looks horrid and artificial... feels even more artificial because of the pure bright landscape it's darkening.
the shrubby knoll in the foreground interferes with the focus point of the landscape in the middle of the photo, i'm sorry to criticise but i don't see how this is a daily deviant? the stats agreew with me too. favs are 10% of the total views of the image. there are far better efforts on this site that actually deserve daily deviant

See, my point is that if you had replied to say, Mollinda, saying Ok I see, the rest of us wouldn't have had anything to say. I know, it doesn't matter anymore and I'm not trying to attack you, it just annoys me that you think we 'don't have a life' because we care about other people's feelings, which you obviously don't. I'm only saying this because 'the favs being 10% of the total views' shows that the rest of the people 'had a life' and moved on without commenting.

i feel as if i must shed some light on a couple things
firstly... why are you still discussing this? there's no reason why you should be... that's just instigating. whoever jumped on the bandwagon and replied in a non useful capacity AFTER the situation was settled, not only between nigel and I, but Avelfairy and mollinda too, were provoking me.
I didn't find it neccessary to reply to all the comments made towards me, especially if they didn't need a reply. Since there wasn't anything more to add, I read it and then left the page... I have other things to do. Now if someone starts talking trash after the situation is clearly resolved, it deserves a reply. Does that make any sense to you? And there's nothing wrong with being rude back to people that are rude in the first place, if it concerns you. Humans tend to retaliate.

Aight, but there's one thing I want to know, why do you keep thinking I'm insisting people here have no life... the first person that brought up the idea of someone having no life was Esteficita... She was implying because I took the time to "calculate" 10% favs to views, I have no life and have no hobbies... literally. "Oh and try and get a life. Who actually calculates the percentage of favs in relation to the total views? You do have hobbies, right?"

Well, really only because you said many times that you didn't even think twice about the comment and couldn't care less about it, and you implied the rest of us didn't have a life because we did care about it (I think we can both agree it's a lot of fuss for just one comment, though).
Personally I don't think 'calculating' the favs means you have no life, it's more about commenting on it. I wasn't really thinking about anything you said to Esteficita though, her reply was unnecessary IMO because so many people had already commented.... She was angry and I think she overreacted.

I didn't imply anyone didn't have a life! that's a really cliched thing to say, im not into my cliches... I was just saying that it wasn't as serious and offensive as everyone thought it was, because people imagine an aggresive tone on the comment without realising i'm pretty apathetic while typing it up and even said sorry to criticise during the 1st comment, just incase people DID take it the wrong way, but it seems EVERYONE took it like that. I understand that i shouldn't have questioned DD integrity n that was sorted, but some felt the need to remind me that I'm a bit or a prick on top of that aswell, and then expect me not to put them back in line.

Perhaps not. I re-read your comment and I think it's, not aggressive really, just very negative. (Critique is of course nice when it's asked for, but it shouldn't be focusing on just the bad things). I think what made people angry was that you said it wasn't deserved, because whatever you think about the photo that is not a nice thing to hear for the person who got the DD (as we both know). I don't think there's any need for people to be that rude, a simple reminder of the rules/policy should be enough.

Hmm yes, but perhaps you could have made it a bit clearer that you understood that; as I said before, I think it might have spared you from some of that if you had replied any of the the comments (see, no one can know you've read the FAQ if you don't say it). I know you did, later, but at first you just said you were used to being able to speak freely about stuff posted on a site etc etc. I'm not saying it's you fault people reacted like that, just that it could have been avoided .. a little bit 
I think what happened here was that a lot of people were anxious to stand up for their friend, and your comment was the only rude one so obviously everyone attacked you. I think it's quite an average shot too, but I still think it was a well deserved DD because of the person who got it. Nigel has done a lot for the community and he's been going through a lot of shit lately, and I'm happy he got a DD. I'm sure the rest of his friends feel the same way. You don't know him, but perhaps you understand.

I only spend a handful of time on dA and I can't spend all of it commenting on every single reply I get, or before I know it I'll end up old with the short end of the stick. I have just one thing to say to you. No, actually, it's a few more things.
a) Grow up, dry up behind your ears little cabbage patch kid and get the experience that Sir Nigel here has.
b) I am very much a defender of freedom of speech, but your freedom stops when you are insulting somebody who just got a DD. That is definitely not voicing your opinion, it's living proof that you are green with envy, because you know that you won't ever get one, because
c) DDs are given to people who have proven to be good photographers over the years of dA membership AND who were always sweet and nice and since you cannot be the latter, you will not ever get one.
So, before you bash somebody's work next time, take a deep breath and think about what you are going to say and how you say it. You don't like a DD, well then just don't look at it.

Oh look it proves how great my maths is. It's stayed at approximately 10% 509 to 4895.
Round the 509 down to 500.
Round the 4895 to 5000.
Those two thought processes happen almost instantly upon looking at the numbers.

The first digit of each number is the SAME. Thus i've calculated approximately 10% fav to view relation. Congratulations Esteficita! YOU NOW KNOW MENTAL MATHS. Devoid of any common sense and mathematical skill. It takes me less than a fucking second to figure out 4000 to 400 is 10%, and I don't even like Maths... My hobbies? You have violated the majority of the points and you started the abuse by calling me a moron in the first place. I did not once use a derogatory term. It was all you who did the name calling and resorting to expletive expressions.
Moreover, this conversation is really starting to bore me, because in the last 500 comments I have tried to point out to you that freedom of speech is a wonderful thing as long as you let others speak as well and you use the right tone with people. Obviously, you do not agree. You obviously think it is okay to throw around random abusive terms.
People did not jump on you for criticizing the artist's work (his name is Nigel btw). They jumped on you for being rude and condescending. I agree that this is an average shot, and can see the faults. I posted it because I liked the overall feel of the shot: just the atmosphere created by the subject in the landscape. I didn't post it with a view to getting a DD; that is up to others to judge, but I will not be asking the powers that be to remove the DD.
Just been and looked at your gallery. Some nice stuff, although most of it is HDR, and I'm not that keen on overly tonemapped images. I consider it a technique that is used to enhance an otherwise mediocre shot.

I appreciate your opinion, and we need critique to grow and develop. I was a pro darkroom tech 38 yrs ago and have been a mad keen hobbyist for 40yrs. I still like peoples opinions, but that shot was a grab that appealed to me for the 'feeling' alone. It got a DD. Whether I agree with that or not is not at issue. I got one for the shot, and that's that.
Your gallery is fine; nice stuff, but I was bound to retaliate to aggresive critique, now wasn't I? It's human nature.

Thanks, Candace. I don't want conflict, and realised that the critique on the shot was way too agressive to be just a judgement of the work. It was more a railing against it getting a DD by someone who would dearly love one, but whose work is produced by someone who doesn't appear to have yet developed 'soul'. We are all allowed to be young and feckless, but we also have to live by our words, and that poor f****r has taken a lashing.
