Description
Get out your red/green(cyan) 3D glasses! This is no where near as cool looking as 3D on the TV (though technically, more resolution), but it does give a sense of the 3D layout. It is optimized for a 54" screen at arm's length, but this should give a decent sense of the 3D in any case.
I did this "by hand" in Photoshop and it's an approximation. There is a Python tool that will do a better job - or I may just add something to my current scripting. It would be fairly easy to redo the whole :45 movie this way and almost as easy to redo it for a monitor vs. a TV form factor (a few days rendering is all... ). If there's any interest in seeing an anaglyph 3D version of the movie
leave a comment below.
BTW: I highly recommend downloading the full sized version and viewing full screen in a dark room - with red/green 3D glasses, of course. I particularly like the floor!

I remember back in the 70's I had a copy of National Lampoon magazine that was in 3D, I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Very cool It really pops, though a bit too dark on my particular screen to see the floor details.

Thanks so much - yeah a bit dark on my screen too - I'll keep that in mind if I do any follow on work.

Wow! Heh. I always knew those silly 3D glasses I keep near the computer would come in handy again. I got them back when one of the SL Viewers (Kristin's which is no longer supported) gave an anaglyph 3D view of Second Life... oh, that was SO coool!

Great! Thanks for checking it out. Was the 3D effect convincing?

I think the effect is great, although the blasts from the blasters on the saucer don't focus quite right, especially the one that is nearer. The rest of it is PERFECT, though, especially the floor and the little alien guys.

Excellent - thank-you so much. It's good to get feedback literally for different sets of eyes. Indeed, the beams come out to much - largely because the angles are for a large screen - the close beam actually "comes out of the screen". Also - anything in the shot that is red (like the control panel that you can barely see here) and some of the ream color - only shows up in the left eye. A bit more sophisticated color handling should help with that.
But this agrees with what I'm seeing so this is good. When I get a little more time in a couple of weeks, I may try a few more images - and maybe see about balancing the color a bit more.
Thanks again!

You're welcome, my dear. I'll look forward to the refinements and, indeed, whatever you have the time and inclination to share.
