The God of the Torah, Bible, and Koran is one of the most hypocritical, vile, and mean characters in a work of fiction. He's selfish, bratty, and cruel at a lot of times. Its one of those instances where you start to root for supposed the villain of the story.

Same here friend. I have nothing but utter contempt and loathing for religion. Its a vile dogmatic book founded on logical fallacies and contradictions and for too long as been toted as this bastion of moral superiority by moral guardians. Theists I can stand because they are a person and they might be a good person. However their religion and especially not god is deserving of respect.

Indeed, but let's be honest, it's not a 'him' or 'god' saying it. It's the self-righteous pricks who propagate fundamentalist ideas about not using birth control and abstaining from kissing before marriage (much less intercourse) while secretly having two Ashely Madison accounts where they cheat on their wives, have a penchant for hookers, and [at least] once molested two of their younger sisters who are ACTUALLY saying it.
Can we all finally see what happens when you tell people NOT to do things that are clearly a natural part of development? You hold something down and it'll grow sideways.

Strange that no other civilization reported on this world-flood. Granted, several other cultures and mythologies wrote about floods in their own holy fairytale books, but that's hardly proof of anything. Far too many plotholes to be even remotely believable.

First, one need not assume that the characters from all the various flood stories were originally separate people. Second, when an ancient person refers to "the entire world" it's important to remember that they meant the world they knew about, which in Noah's case did not extend beyond the land immediately surrounding the Black Sea, which at the time was both much smaller and a lake, and geologists have confirmed that at one point in the past the Mediterranean spilled in and flooded it, making it what it is today.

Timeline for the Flood | Answers in Genesis when were the pyramids built - Google Search Tell me, how did not only the pyramids survive, but so many dynasties that predate and come after the flood, neither saying "B-T-dubs, we were all killed in a flood"
But it doesn't matter actually, since that is not the only proof that the Noah's Ark flood didn't happen. The “50/500” rule shows how you need 50 of a species to ensure diversity. There is how all those animals got there, no ship could be made today by skilled builders, feeding all the animals, and where all the water went!
Trying not to insult you with such an idiotic comment. I said try to get a flood story out of someone who lived in a mountain community!

And are they taking place at the exact same time? Or are you speaking of the natural apperance of floods worldwide? Where rivers go berserk and take with them several houses? We have those here in Norway once a year. But it is still miles away from covering the entire world in water. I'm just horrified that people say drowning the entire world of humans and animals and plantlife with the exception of a boatload is a moral tale.

The oldest civilization, much less, written word (I.E. RECORDED WORD), didn't exist all over the world at that time.
Besides, I've always believed that the story of Noah's Ark was allegorical.
People who take the entire Bible too literally, theist and atheist alike, are forever locked in this back and forth debate.

God - "Noah, I want you to build an Ark because I'm going to flood the world and wipe out man because they are too evil. The fact that your family is the only decent group of humans on the planet shows the sorry state of things and its time to 'start over'."
Noah - "Ok."
*Noah & Family start building the Ark.*
Some person - "Hey Noah what are you doing?"
Noah - "Building an Ark because God is going to flood the planet and wipe out everyone. You might want to change your ways before its too late."
Some person - "Yeah right LOSER!"
Another person - "Did you hear about that crazy guy named Noah who is building a big boat because God told him He is going to flood the planet!"
Friend of another person - "Yeah, he's a religious fundamentalist. He says that things like human/child/baby sacrifices are actually a sin!"
Another person - "I hope his Ark tips over and crushes him!"
Another person - "Did you hear that animals are heading toward that Ark of Noah's?"
Friend of another person - "Why are animals behaving so docile and orderly like that? Maybe there is something to what Noah is doing!"
Another person - "He probably drugged those animals or had them trained all along. Hey, there's a gang rape going on over there! Lets join in!"
Another person - "Um, I'm not liking this rain. I. . .I think Noah was right! Oh, God, maybe Noah can take my children aboard the Ark before its too late!"
Friend of another person - "We just sacrificed your children so our god will stop the rain so no worries!"
Another person - "YOU. . .DID. . .WHAT?!"

I know it's vogue to piss on Christianity and hey, who am I to dictate what's trendy, but the concept of death and rebirth is not a concept native to religions that atheists don't shit on as often. Everything from Hinduism to Buddhism to Ancient Egyptian gods and even the philosophy of Karma.

Maybe they're agnostic and take the position that if he does exist they don't really like him? Or maybe its more like reading a work of fiction and not agreeing with a character's motives?
Personally I find Yahweh's actions here to b a bit abhorrent personally. I mean only one human out of millions was good? Only one? Even the newly born babies were just pure evil?

If you can't be bothered to read the passage, just say so.
And honestly, I wouldn't force or encourage you to do as such, but don't parrot the words of those who are all diss and no read.
The number, if you must know, refers to adults.
And it wasn't just Noah if you'll recall, it was his sons and their families, and even though the word 'the world' was used, that can be interpreted as 'the region', which we know had a major flooding event.
Hell, I know all this and I'm Sufi.

Now, there's nothing in my reply that requires such a passive-aggressive comment. In fact I was pretty neutral and there was hardly even any religion bashing. All I did was state why some reasons of why atheists and even others may interpret it in such a way. There's some skeptics who do not believe in god but view the bible as a work of fiction and a novel since it is a book and story at heart. Then there's agnostics who are in the grey who debate there is a possibility for a god but also a possibility for there not to be one.
However the it seems that most of the atheists here view the Bible as a work of ficiton and thus to them its like reading a work of fiction and not agreeing with the character's motives. That's probably the best way to describe by Atheist's here might not like him because given the context of the story he was not exactly the type of guy. Now I am a guy who loves to read and review media. I love reading books, watching movies, playing games, and getting immersed in their stories and lore. The Bible to me is the same way as the before mentioned particularly stories. I mean there's even a section for the Bible on Fanfiction.net. If you don't believe me you can look it up. But anyway I've been rambling for too long here so lets get to the story itself.
Now I wasn't parroting anything or quoting anybody. They were just my own thoughts. I grew up in a somewhat religious environment. These stories are nothing new to me, the very famous ones at least and I would say most people with at least some familiarity with Christianity at least know of Noah's arc (get the pun? Eh? Eh?). Well when it was told for me I was told the watered down version they of course tell kids. God was displeased with the world so he wanted to wipe it out and being anew. So he told Noah to build his giant ass boat and put several animals on it. Then the flood came, wiped out everything else. Then when it ended everyone got off and procreated to start anew. That is the simplest version of the story.
Now some theists on here have been accusing me to go back and read the Bible and all that jazz. It just so happens that in the sake of interests like most households mine does in fact have a Bible and I have it next to me and I have been reading it recently as I do love to read stories. So for our conversation here I will give thee cutestsith's opinions, thoughts, and review on the story of Noah and his flood.
So I got my Bible out next to me and its only a quick read as most Bible stories are. Our story begins with it claiming that a lot of girls were being born an supernatural beings who I assume are demons he is referring to thought these chicks were hot and so took them as lovers and wives and what not. This displeased god and so he ended human immortality and decreed they will not live more than 120 years. This is later contradicted in the story as Noah was around 600. However if we want to take this literally then there is credence that this is just a story and god does not exist because this person.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_C…
Jeanne Calment was not only a centurion who lived to be 121. A year over god's decreed life-span limit of humans, she also lived one more year to 122.
But that is just a tangent. Let's get back to the story. So god basically cock blocks these demons and removes humanities's immortality. It also mentions giants existing and being the spawn of these women. Nothing really bad here. Just strange and slightly humorous in an over the top fashion.
The next scene is god looking down at Earth from heaven and seeing how much he fucked up. He states that he is sorry he made the birds, plants, animals, etc and states he will wipe them out. However he likes Noah. He states that Noah was a Mary-Sue. I'm not even kidding. He states Noah has no faults and is the best man of his time. I find this funny because later they state only Jesus was perfect but here they say the same thing about Noah. There's a contradiction there. Anyway God tells Noah that he will destroy all mankind for their wicked deeds and all the animals because why the hell not. He tells Noah to build this boat and take his family with him. Now I did know he took his family on board. It was his wife, his sons, and the wives of his sons. So only his family was spared. O.K then.
So he's on the boat and its described that it kept raining and raining and the water levels rose to the tallest levels and so ended up at Everest levels. However it states every living thing died. The grazing animals, insects, birds, etc. Whatever was not on the Arc died. Then of course the rain ends, water levels go down, and the animals are released and the world gets populated again.
So analysis. I find the story strange and wonky. Was it trying to teach a moral? What was the point? It's an impressive lore for sure but the problem is that god is supposed to be the "good guy" of are story. This is not quite something that my morals would consider good or just. The problems it faces are for one showing not telling. All we have to go with that the world is evil is god saying it is so. We don't have any actual evidence or examples or why they were evil.
An example of telling is what the Bible did when it said everyone was evil.
An example of telling would be to list examples and give reasons why the people were evil.
However was Noah the only good human? I doubt that as well. While the human population at this time was probably not as high as today but doubt among the thousands of people everyone was evil. Not a single person beside Noah was good? Even the new borns? Not even they were good? They were born evil? This is where many have problems with it.
I look at the Bible like any story or book and read it critically like I would to Harry Potter, or the Hunger Games, or Percy Jackson. If things don't make sense or there are plot holes they are pointed out. And the the story might get bad reviews because of them.
Sufi? Interesting. That's a form of Islam correct? I heard a little about it.
For my final summary I'm open to talk about this and I love talking about it. However I was just simply trying to explain your above statement about atheists and why they might read the Bible and say god is evil. Personally I find him pretty evil. Not the worst character in fiction as the Greek gods such as Zeus and Athena beat him in being dicks but he's pretty up there. This is all just personal opinion however as we are all allowed to like or not like certain characters. I'm open to discussion.

Sufism predates Islam.
And unlike Potter, Hunger James or Percy Jackson, the Bible is an anthology of books spread out across hundreds of years and edited by politicians who saw it as an opportunity to harness a greater control over people.
The unabridged iterations of the Bible are worth looking at.
