Congrats on the DD! The shading on the icons are really great! I like how you did RD's colors and Pinkie and Rarity's hair.

May I say that you are a good person? You disagree, yet you remain civil. You posses preconceptions, yet you remain curious. These are the kinds of things great men possess. Now, as for why it is popular, it is somewhat complex, somewhat not. It has sound morals, smooth animation, expressive voice acting, surprising humor... but, moreover, the community makes it. People who bond over something that already requires them to put aside many things, many thoughts they had that they are willing to suspend to know what is in this show, people who bond like this become tight-knit.

Why thank you
And its girly ponies running around! I understand why it may be a good show, but the concept is just so ridiculous!
Ugh..... I just want to know why they are ok with flamboyant ponies, unicorns, and pegasus and not more age appropriate stuff...

Potus-Mat In reply to PeopleCanHear [2012-09-06 05:25:32 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but, sometimes, the most ridiculous concepts can make great things. Like a combination of flour and other stuff to make cake, or beheading a plant to show your affection. It is not that people are not okay with "age appropriate" things, but that there is not that much good "age appropriate" stuff out there anymore. Some people just miss the old days of Looney Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid... Most animated series nowadays are too random and vulgar. They fail to respect the viewer's intelligence. They sacrifice consistent characters for cheap gags. That would be one reason.

(I don't see many helpful responces here. lol)
Uh, I(as a 22 year old) like MLP because I find the animation to be really great(And adorable), there are a few jokes in there that someone my age can enjoy... Its a rare care of a kids show that isn't stupidly simple, as is the case with most shows geared towards children, whereas when I was a little one my parents would sit around and watch my shows with me because they were good for all age groups(Flintsones, Jetsons, Reboot, Pokemon, Digimon... they were for kids, but were bearable for all ages). Also, the positive nature of the show appeals to me. MLP is the only show that can literally boost my mood by watching it. Also, it's helped me through some pretty rough things.
Granted, not all Brony's will have the same reasons as myself, but most of us can agree there are many factors that appeal. It's not like MLP was something I thought I'd get into xD; it just... turned out that I liked it.

I understand that its bearable for all ages, but i truly can't get myself to even say their names without a chill running down my spine..... I understand its upbeat and happy and the animation and what not is good, but the concept and delivery i cannot stand. As for the jokes, i could watch one of the many other sconces of humor available to me at the time. I guess what if I'm being more specific I should say why is this show preferred to alternatives that are less childish and just as good or better?

Sonic-chaos In reply to PeopleCanHear [2012-09-05 09:23:20 +0000 UTC]
Because there are not that many that are as good or better. Any cartoon nowadays is ether idiotic or full low brow humor. (with exceptions) and anything that is for "our age" is almost the same. And anything that is better already had its time to be popular. And the one that are just as good do have their large fanbase (Adventure Time for example)

PeopleCanHear In reply to Sonic-chaos [2012-09-05 22:54:47 +0000 UTC]
But its girly ponies and such, I just don't know why people are so ok with being a huge part of something WAY outside their age group.....
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Pix3M In reply to PeopleCanHear [2012-09-06 04:12:58 +0000 UTC]
Either there's something to this cartoon that makes the most unlikely age group become hardcore fans, or we're actually a bunch of no-life trolls who are pretending 24/7 just to rustle people's jimmies. That's what went into my head, and it was exactly the thing that got me to sit down, look up a few episodes on youtube, poke fun at the earlier, childish episodes, but got hooked onto the later ones.
I'm pretty sure it's more than just ponies running around. Seriously now? Do you honestly think people are paid to write stories about ponies running around?

Sonic-chaos In reply to PeopleCanHear [2012-09-05 23:07:47 +0000 UTC]
Is not as girly as it could be. Is more childish than girly actually. Most of the episode are gender neutral with the exception of the occasional episode (and even those are enjoyable).
It's people that like cartoons just enjoying a cartoon. And is fun to obsesses over something every now and then.

What!? You can't give up! You have to stick to your goal, hold on to that dream, and do everything within and beyond your power to make it possible. That what it means to be a man! Do the impossible and kick logic to the curb, that's the way Team Dai Gurren rolls. JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!
.... Sorry I been re-watching Gurren Lagann. But don't worry, someday you'll understand.
(I just checked Fallout: Equestria. It has 95+ stories.

It's a lot like the Powerpuff Girls, and that show was very successful, and the show is animated very well and there is a lot of witty and clever humor. Well, these are the reason why -I- like it and I'm sure most other people do too.

It was mostly meant to be a joke, but I do know a large number of teens that watch "16 and Pregnant". A quick trip to facebook or some specific forums may show the same: teenage girls are the show's target audience, and they make up a large portion of the actual audience.

No, it's just the vocal ones. It's like with Christians; people hate the ones who are awful people, but the Christian Bible says not to be a dick (paraphrasing). Most of the Bronies are nice people, but the insane few make them seem bad. A lot of them just watch the show and that's all... no fanart, no OCs, no roleplay. Just watching a show.

well yeah, or the ones that go too far and make pony porn pictures >> not that i've had the unfortunate experience of seeing any but i know from other deviants that it's out there. yeah i can get that. i had the unfortunate experience of meeting so called bronie, and they were hating on me because i was "hateing" on MLP, but as soon as they established that i wasn't "hating" i was just at a "strong dislike" [i dont care enough to hate it] they were like "ok bye, this convo is over" and it's like really? you shouldn't start fights without knowing all the fact you know? it's like they were lashing out at me for having a different opinion to them, and it's like not everyone is going to liike the same thing as you, get over it. kindof deal ya know? but yeah i know they're not all like that. i have a good friend who's a bronie. but the furthest I'd go with my opinion of the show is that if ANYONE wanted to commission me any pony art? it would be in my OWN style, not like the other art out there that clones the style from the show so you can't tell what's from one artist and what from another because it all looks the same. another thing that bugs me...
but yeah XD sorry went on a rant there

NudeDoctor In reply to Jenny2-point-0 [2012-09-05 04:26:24 +0000 UTC]
Hate to say it, but there's porn of everything. I've seen some explicit, hentai-like images from that recent movie- Dr Seuss' The Lorax. The only reason no one's complaining about porn from that kid movie is because people don't care enough to love it or hate it.
As many "pony clones" as there are around here, there are tons of more original ones. The same has been going on with Japanese anime for years; all the young or new anime artists make the same repeated thing, and only a few realize it's time to make something original.

well yeah i know, but that kindof thing is always made worse when the character are for kids... :/ like i think it's sick you can kind the same art for sonic and that as well... as well as many other fandoms. it's still wrong though...
well yeah but anime has more wiggle room so ass your own spin on it, the pony style is so simple there's not much variation :/ it just saddens me, like i started watching someone for their cannine/ animal art right? and all they've sumitted thins May is MLP and im seriously considering dewatching them because it's not what i want in my notifications. but is saddens me because they were an amazing artists and now their talent has been simplified so much and is wasted since they only ever seems to draw MLP...
