In honor of the Issue 21 Special Update, which just shipped this week, I've got an interesting one for you. Malaise is a major bad guy who appears in the new content, and man, have I been holding on to this one a while.Malaise is a well-known COH character who originally wore purple tights with a swirl pattern--not especially scary for a mentally-unbalanced guy who fancies himself an artist and whose power is to paint with freakin' FEAR. So when I got the chance to do a redesign (2 plus years ago!), I had something different in mind. For example: strait-jackets, Nazi scientists, the Scarecrow and Crispin Glover as Willard--the creepiest and most nightmarish stuff I could think of.
Malaise's fear paint manifests itself as blood-like purple blotches all over his smock, and his hands look like he's dunked them in pretty deeply.
This guy's supposed to be scary, and I like to think that this fits the bill.

Just looking at this creepy illo, I can imagine him walking through the decrepit halls of that abandoned asylum, the echo of his approaching bootsteps in empty halls splattered with old dried blood... and fear made tangible ! Brrr ! Great stuff !

I think this would have been fantastic for the Praetorian Malaise, given his position in Praetoria, any insight to offer as to why it wasn't used?

Hah it's hilarious that I'd actually done that trial and yet couldn't see the Malaise model in the slightest. Still, it's a lovely design and model shame it's covered in FX 99% of the time.

Wow! This is awesome. Finally Malaise show he can be a true villain instead of a joke.
I loved comics he show his inner self (I guess the one introducing Safeguard missions did that) he is show that insane side on outside too. Don't get me wrong, classic tights look always nice but this is just amazing.
He is best looking Preatorian.

I don't know, primal-side I think the purple, swirl-y tights just kind of clicked with the "I'm an (insane) artist of the MIND!" schtick he had. Always thought he should be hanging with the Carnies more, too - or even get an "extreme thrill-seeking" troupe of them following him (which could lead to an interesting Malaise/Devore showdown.)
Given I tend to assume the Praetorian version would be more... *leashed,* I suppose, I'd say this fits that.
