Description
The 'big bad' for CITY OF HEROES Issue 15, Reichsman is a 5th Column (read: Nazi) version of Statesman from an alternate universe. Issue 15 returned the 5th Column to the game, and the new mission content culminated in a huge fight with this character.I had some other, more outlandish ideas for this character, but the art direction I got emphasized a more traditional Nazi look.
Artistically, I was bouncing back and forth between comic lineart and digital paint at this point. Hadn't really nailed down which way I should go.

So now that City if heroes is back, does that mean we get to fight Der Reichsman again?

I think he was killed at some point. If the Homecoming devs do continue the story, I would like for him to return. Not that much of a stretch for him to have a contingency plan in place in the event of his seeming demise.

They better if they can. Though NC Soft may hit them with a copyright claim if they do so.

Okay, I admit I can't look at Reichsman without thinking of Raul Julia hamming it up as M. Bison in the hilarious live-action "Street Fighter" film... but that just makes me love the Teutonic twit all the more. Besides, if you want the perfect illustration that gets across the concept of "Super-Nazi" instantly and without fail, your above picture of Reichsman is it ! There could be no greater success at getting across that character concept !

Yeah. It's pretty much the hat that seems to invite the comparisons--I guess Bison just has a lock on Nazi hats at this point!

The black cape, top, being built like a brick house, and having glowing eyes didn't help.

I won't lie though, even if it does look like M. bison, it's still a snazy outfit, I'd sure love some tops like that. (Okay, maybe without the huge Fifth Column Emblem that blends to the cape)

Wow, he's tough.

I remember hearing how this went down in Beta. Apparently, his HP was set at some ridiculously high number to begin with...and yet players were able to take him down. So Reichsman's stats were bumped even higher after that. He's meant to be a true challenge, as I understand it.

In getting to a relevant comment, however, I do like his design, although I think he could have used something to convey the idea of "counterpart to Statesman" in his design? You've got "super nazi" here, but there's not much "Statesman alternate" in there. Maybe a states-style cape shoulderpiece? 5th column symbols down his legs instead of stars?
Might've helped reduce the M.Bison comparisons, as well.

It's the art direction I was given. If you want to see some of the other approaches that might've been (similar to what you're suggesting, hit the 'next pic' button!

Eeeeh. To me, he's just kinda tedious. I mean, Boosting HP is a really -lame- way to increase the difficulty of a fight. AV fights already last so long that if you can't out-heal the damage they do sustainably, you're not going to be able to beat them. Increasing the HP beyond that doesn't boost the difficulty, it just makes the fight -take- longer.
I prefer the more recent approach of giving the enemies special powers that require the players to be active in different ways (huddling up, spreading out, backing off, getting close, etc.)

I think the more satisfying part of the last battle was when Nemesis got activated and my main, the Malleable Mechanic, got to smash with wrench: I had a previous AE mission set before the Galaxy City meteorfall where automaton forces tried to kidnap his father and use altered rezoning plans (originally meant to change the family repair shop into part of a residential complex) to make Paragon into Nemesis' ideal image. It also involved the Mechanic "adopting" a Clockwork coglet.
But (to get back on track here), Reichs was a paced, satisfying fight to do. None of our SG team died during the whole thing either! That I remember.
