Description
Update(3-13-13)I updated Hyder's photos and edited them into my current collage format. The only changes I made to the MOC is removing the painted Kanohi Huna Mask for a non-painted one. There wasn't much difference anyways. Before you say anything, yes I know his sphere shield looks like a .
about the MOC
Hyderbawl(hider ball) was one of my three submissions to 's Return to Scrapworld Contest.
Updated(3-13-13) Hyderbawl was my first ever Matoran build, as well as my first real attempt at the smaller end of the MOCing spectrum. Even though Hyderbawl was retroactively built, he contains only parts dating to 2004 or older. I have no plans to update him using more modern parts.
Scrapworld Bio
Hyderbawl is a Survivor. He's immune to the mutagen and hasn't been killed yet thanks to his sphere shield. When the sphere shields are connected/closed they complete a circuit that gives him special sonar so he can sense what's happening outside of the sphere. The shields are also motorized so he can roll around when they're open. Therefore If its legal I'm gonna classify this as a vehicle to because the shields aren't actually a part of his body, as shown in the third picture.
Personality wise Hyderbawl is very timid, cautious, and kind of cowardice. He gets scared very easily, but when it comes to his friends he will stand up to a fight.
Hyderbawl Was a Ta-metru Matoran before the apocalypse. Because of his astonishing defensive abilities he would travel though the furnaces of ta metru when somethhing would break in them internally and were too hot for most other matoran to go into. Now in scrap world he is a scout/locater for hire/trade for any survivor squad. He helps only people who are not scraps. He most often shadows Piravir since most if not all the survivor squads want to know what he's doing or where he's going. The biggest advantage to Hyderbawl's sphere shields is he can hide in the plainest of sights with his rather inauspicious looking sphere. This allows him to get closer to dangerous characters like piravir and the suffering while still living to report his findings.

Yeah, that's pretty Bullshit. At least with Karzanhi you got the whenua mask in blue, and the Vakama Hordika in green. I hate that they stopped doing masks in many colors, like they did with the old masks. That made using them as masks much more viable than later on.
You know, if lego wasn't so "HEREFUCKERY FACTORY FUCK BUY OUR FUCKING HERO FACTORY YOU FUCKING FUCK" and would do both HF and Bionicle, they'd make money selling mask packs and even just small little one off's here and there. They coulda done so much more promotional shit that would get the bionicle demographic to buy simple cause it was too good to resist, like maybe an all trans clear Toa Vakama, cause he can turn invisible. That's what I think they shoulda done for 2004 comic con. Not "wooh, here's a disk with their logo on it."

Yeah, I've mentioned before that masks in only one color evoke the character they were originally on. However the mask packs had masks that don't evoke a character at all.
I don't mind Hero Factory at all, I just think they could do so much more with it in terms of sets. They release so few sets compared to Bionicle, and I would like a bit more variety in terms of sets. You also have to bear in mind that exclusive items (due to being a low production run) are proportionally more expensive/ make a lower percentage of profit. So maybe a Turaga Vakama would be more reasonable, or a simpler/ shrunken Toa Vakama

EXACTLY! That's why I hate using mask so much and actually have turned to older masks more.
True, but its like anything else, make something special, and charge a bit more for it. This was done with the DC and Marvel large figures. Those were the same size as a regular HF set, but were a bit more expensive. Which is why I don't have any. SHould get a few in after market if I can though. I think if they put out a Toa Vakama in that limited run in all trans clear, and charged 20 bucks, people woulda gone nuts for it and got it anyways. I know I would have.
But you're right. Lego is killing the potential of HF. They could do so much better, introduce a small line of more advanced sets as well, or just give more variety like you said. I do think HF as it is now is getting consistently better though.

I honestly get frustrated by Hero factory sometimes. 2011 only had 21 sets (most of which were small) which is pitiful. I'd be interested in seeing who's making these decisions to release very few products with little variance in design. Hero Factory has pretty much seen the disappearance of mini-sets, mask/ammo packs, vehicles, rahi, and exclusives.

Yep. OMG I would come unglued if I was able to even be in a room with the designers/decision makers. I would verbally abuse them till they cried...or had me arrested.
HF's pros though are the new structure system. That works beautifully for providing structure and mobility. They've scaled back parts variations in lieu of much more recoloring, unfortunately the way they distribute these recolorings is utterly incoherent. "Thanks Lego, These four medium Azure parts that we got once and won't ever see again will come in real handy." Or its like "Thanks for giving me one of these fucking things in the whole set. Now I'll either have to get that one other set you put this in, or buy another one." There's always bricklink, but I don't think Lego really operates with that mindset, maybe they do.
It does seem like they make some parts overly abundant while making others way too scarce. And there's almost no consistency to what lego's doing in terms of new colors, or new parts variations. :/ This next wave of Brain attack is going to have what looks like three larger than usual sets in Jet Rocka, Dragon Bolt, and I think Surge is bigger to.
I still stand by that while still stupid, HF is consistently getting better.

I've said before that Hero Factory should have a series where the villains are mind controlled heroes, that would give them an excuse to release new colors of pieces e.g. turquoise, purple, tan, keetorange, brown, metru blue etc. Sadly they don't seem to be grabbing the correct opportunities. Which makes me not want them to reboot Bionicle because it will surely be as mismanaged as Hero Factory is.

Done! Only about the size of a size 4 rod, although the head is a bit funny, and the arms need work. Fits snugly inside a tridax sphere.

I love the concept, but I would have changed the color scheme to a bit more of a mechanical or rust color. Especially if I was going to be doing a duel color. That way it would show his age in the Bionicle world.
Great work!

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to RazielXavier [2011-08-01 08:08:41 +0000 UTC]
I get what your saying and yeah that'd be coo, but short of painting the pieces there isn't a rust color in lego, the closest we have is copper and its a rare color to get parts in. Lego and bionicle has only certain colors available, and even then you're limited to what you can get.
Thank you.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to RazielXavier [2011-08-06 10:46:56 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for the suggestion. Its funny cause for a while they were adding rust and things to make the figures look old to the parts in the instructions, but not actually providing pieces that were like that. it was lame cause it does indeed look cool and makes a figure look aged. I wish lego would have done like a collector series where you could buy a figure that had like battle damage or came in special colors, like an all clear Vakama Metru, since he had the power of invisibility.
Thanks.

Nah, just kidding! You've got an interesting design though.

Thank you. You should check out my other bionicles. Some people can work well with legos, some can create masterpieces with them. If you work at it enough and are committed to it its like anything, enough practice and you get good at it. Does your BF make anything and post it? Is he on
as well? I'd be happy to give some tips if you or him wants. ^_^

HA I know, my cousins used to come over and want to play with all my legos. Their parents always had the hardest time getting them to leave.

I had the idea to make a tron lightcycle out of them but don't have four of the same color to make that happen. Bricklink is a pretty efficient use of money for bionicles/legos. You get exactly what you want and need instead of four parts you want and a bunch of parts you already have.
