Description
Thorin, lord of the Ice Dwarfs. Ice dwarfs Live high up in the mountain ranges of Several different regions, unlike their cousins who like typical dwarfs, live deep underground. (its unclear if I'm giving him a bionicle story or otherwise) As a dwarf Thorin is a bit taller than most of his kind. It is joked that in a crowd of dwarfs one can always pick out the members of the king's line by who's head is farthest from the ground. Thorin is equipped wit his blizzard axe and gauntlets, both of which are created trough a process the ice dwarfs have mastered where they fuse ice and crystals. They simply call it crystalice It is very durable and easy to make. It is also joked that "if an ice dwarf made it, only and icedwarf can break it." The name Thorin was taken from the Dwarf leader in J.R.R Tolkien's The hobbit. This figure was very difficult to get to work right. His head was very non-cooperative, but after a lot of messing wit it I finally got everything to work out. And with his head I utilized the actual shape of the strakk Mask and glatorian head piece to pretty much hold everything together on him. I also got to utilize 1, my chain pieces as his hair and beard after initially coming up with the concept on The suffering and 2, many of my light blue pieces that mostly came off of my Superbattle droid set, which is where I got those metallic blue parts seen on my alien space ship , and 3, those interesting "ice" parts that came from strakk. I wish I had more ice parts from other glatorian sets to fill this look out, but alas, strakk was the only ice glatorian set I ever got. I think the fact that I was able to get tis good of a result from a first draft shows that my skills as a MOCer are improving. Really, you guys over estimate my skill.
Update
sent me some Parts and in them included the snowflake shield pieces. from Agori Metus set. I told him if I got them I'd put them on Thorin so I did. I also updated his shoulders, legs and hands from the previously pictured version, and added some small pieces to the back of his feet. His hands are even stabler now which is good cause I don't like flimsy builds. The Metus shield pieces also keep his hair from flopping all over the place and getting tangled up in the rest of the MOC when handling him.
Detail layout.

Thanks Joe. Glad you like him. Also, with the HF thing, he was made in early 2011 when HF was still relatively new. So By that point I don't think I even had that many part in HeroFactory, just a couple of 1.0's at that time. So it wasn't really a challenge of building in just bionicle, and it still isn't for me since my HF selection even now isn't very big. I get one or two of the smaller figures from each series.

No, that's Aiden's work and we don't speak to each other. I only go to his account when I need to reference something. Otherwise I tend to avoid it. Also you don't always have to leave a new comment. There's a reply feature where we can keep talking and carrying on a conversation.

No, just borrowed the name. I made him back when the the Hobbit wasn't so big and popular. SO now I think I should probably change his name if I ever come back and update him.

He's one of my more "middle aged" MOCs, not one of my newest, but not a newer one either. So he could stand to be updated.

Thanks Simeon. Because he's kinda buried down in my bionicle MOCs folder and no one goes and visits the back half of it I guess? If on the short browsing pages like regular members are, I think he's what a few pages back? I've got my browsing set to 120 entries per page so I have fewer page throughs so its not that much.
I kinda need to update him a bit, or at least his pictures. He's one of the first MOCs I built where I was really satisfied with the end result on the first try. The only thing that was changed on him since his initial build was the crown and I dressed up his legs a bit. Beyond that, he's pretty much how I built him the first time. If I did update him, I'm not entirely sure what I'd do.

The custom head/mask was absolutely boss.
Yeah, the pics could be clearer.
Maybe as a re-upload/some improvements deviation?

Yeah the presentation definitely needs updating. Him and a bunch of others. I just haven't gottena round to it. But in all honesty its what I should be doing in a dry spell of MOCing. Not like I don't have enough comments and replies as it is.
Thanks. I was pretty proud of that one. It was a total bitch to figure out to.

Hehe yeah, I'm not so active on MOCpages. DA is where I post and am active. MOCpages and flickr are more like out reaches to get people to come to here and view my work. Its sorta like advertizing.

hehe yeah. DA is much better for posting MOCs though. There's a lot more resources and features to post MOCs here. The community is a little smaller to, so you get more recognition, and don't blend in quite as much.

That's about its only advantage. DA isn't just lego art though, its all kinds of art. Its multifaceted.

The image of a dwarf is shown pretty well in this work. Also thumbs up because you used an axe. I think, a hammer/axe is THE typical weapon for a dwarf (even though they are really big compared to the size of a dwarf^^)

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Nazgul4 [2012-01-30 21:34:43 +0000 UTC]
Thank you. I'm glad it shows. Though he is just a bit too tall. I used the axe because like you pointed out, its their typical weapon, but also because that pieces fits in with the color scheme and look of the strakk mask and the gauntlet pieces.

This is what I was aiming for with [link] I didn't get it down nearly as well as you did, however. Bravo! I especially like the hands, and may use them, if you don't mind. They seem incredibly stable and they just plain look cool

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Uikri [2011-09-16 22:58:55 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. I really like those hands, accept for the thumb they're pretty stable, yeah. This concept really came together for me with the exception of the height. He's supposed to be a dwarf but instead he's just a kinds short person. He needs to be I'd say half an inch sorter to be a dwarf.
So is that MOC you linked yours, is that your profile to? I wanna comment on it but if its not yours then that'd be a little awkward and rude with what I want to say about it. Also, mind if I know your first name since we're going to be co-running the MOC-CD together? I'm Dave if you didn't already know.

Ooh, and ice dwarf? I like that idea Have you ever figured out how to correct the height?
I didn't tell you? That's my old account. I basically killed it and moved to this one since I had had that one for four years. If you wanna comment on it go ahead, though I can't guarantee when I'll see it, unless you just told me in this string of conversation. Ah, yes. That would be a good idea. My name is Matthew, but you can call me Matt (I like Matt better anyway XD). Nice to meet you again, Dave

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Uikri [2011-09-17 07:38:40 +0000 UTC]
lol, no. I wanna make shorter legs for him but I also like the shape he's got. I just haven't messed with it. I may just change up his whole persona to an ice barbarian, since "barbarian" is a big part of the influence in him anyways.
Aww That's too bad. So are you going to put any of your MOCs up on this account? Likewise, nice to meet you Matt. My name is David, but I just go by Dave cause I like it more. Plus its what my grandmother calls me since I was named after her late 2nd husband, and also my step dad's name is David.
Well simply put I was gonna say that its a nice concept, and not too bad a start, but lacks execution. I like what you did with the mask and light saber sticks. The greens mixed with white would be cool if done better but the Strakk ax kills that with its light blue marbled into the white.

Uikri In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2011-09-17 14:55:00 +0000 UTC]
Ah, that would also fit, wouldn't it?
I dunno. If I had anyone really following my stuff still or that I knew wanted to see them posted, maybe. But I have even less activity than I did before, no thanks to my lack of inspiration I'm waiting to really do some new things when I finally get some Hero Factory pieces. So yeah, probably not. If there's anything you want to see posted on this account though, I'd be happy to oblige.
Well, I think he was the first one I made out of my three newer guys, so color scheme was still pretty sloppy. I originally wanted him to be white and blue like the ax. The only reason I added green in there to begin with was because I'm so lacking in white pieces But thanks for the criticism
I like to know where I should improve.

Yeah it would
Ah I see. Hero factory 2.0 and on parts are pretty useful. You'd be smart to get some.
Hmmm then I would say take the ax off and make white and green the color scheme. So is it going to be a while before we see more MOCing from you? You're welcome. Happy to help.

Thanks. I don't think lego would make a set like this. The parts don't exactly "snap together" like theirs do. The mask literally holds his beard up. But thanks, I'm glad you like him.
