I love this picture, I've been looking for good Snape artwork for a couple of days and really didn't think I would find anything up my street then BAM! I find this. I love the way you still depict Snape as sallow and unkept but keep him back from Rowling's caricature depiction.
I kinda hated the way in the books he is taken right in to the extreme, I can see how the film needed to tidy him up slightly. It seemed odd to me that he would be so happy to be going somewhere that he would fit in, like at Hogwarts, even change out of his awful clothes for his school robes on the train so that he would fit in, and then carry on with being basically unwashed. He was obviously portrayed as having pride in himself, arrogance even, and yet he carries on with the one behaviour that earns him so much stick. Despite being in the presence of a girl he was trying to keep. In fact dealing with someone like that, with those types of habits can be a huge strain even for the most loyal friend, Lily would have been a saint to do so. I love his character yet there are some major issues with how Rowling portrays him in my opinion, that turn him in to a cartoon cut out in a few ways (asides from his wonderful motive plotting that is), and these get in the way of him being portrayed as a complex grown man who would be baring a massive responsibility in life.
I think, for me, you have struck the perfect balance in portraying him as skinny, pale, sharp featured, not washing his hair every day, as he is not overly interested in his appearance at all, yet still keep him back from being frankly and childishly disgusting.

I've been searching for this deviation for a while ... came across it on a fanpop video (sorry! - they love to butcher dA) and instantly fell in love with it! Notwithstanding the fact these videos are most often great, sometimes they should at least credit the original artist.
Anyway, the warmth and fondness vice versa are perfectly portrayed!

Thanks! Yeah, lack of credit is always unnerving, but when there's no money changing hands and it's all about fanart rather than original works I just take it as a predictable side effect of putting stuff on the internet in the first place.
