Description
I was requested to make an animation tutorial for GIMP and so I decided to give it a try. I know there are tutorials like this already on DA, but one more wouldn't hurt I guess? It's a mini tutorial, it doesn't show everything, but it is something you can use to get the basics down. This is also the first real tutorial I've ever made, so any helpful comments and critiques are welcome! Also feel free to point out mistakes and such, no one here wanted to proof read it for me T_T
[GIMP ] is a free art and photo manipulation program that is available for download from their site. I normally use it for lineart, but it can do lots of other things

Okay, so I'm trying to make myself a new icon, it's working except one part is overlapping even though I have it with the (replace) in each layer/frame. Could you possibly help with that? Do you know what I should do?

This is very easy to read, thank you
I realize that this is not the newest tutorial out there but I have a question. Is there any way to reserve opacity properties with the animation?? (I can't find any tutorials online)

If you just want to animate sprite-like images with a transparent background you can make the background of each frame transparent, but put the word "(replace)" at the end of each layer name so that the frame layers don't pile on each other in the final animation.
If you mean alpha-style transparencies (smooth gradient semi-transparent frames) you can look up .apng image creators (that is the animated .png image format). That is currently the only image type that I know of that supports frame pixels of varying transparencies (as opposed to the straight 100% transparent or 100% color per pixel space that .gif images have).
Gimp did have an .apng plug-in but I could never get it to work :s

Okay thank you very much. The smooth gradient and variations of semi-transparent frames was what I was trying to figure out.

Does this work for text art because isn't when you right text on gimp, isn't that a separate layer?

I have a question. I wanna do Capcom style animation sprites of certain cartoon characters. Will this program work on Windows 7? If so, how can I upload it to deviantART?

I have a question, um when I go to save my animation which folder do I put it in? Cause when I save it it never asks if I want it saved as animation or just regular picture, so I was wondering if there was somewhere special who'd have to save it? thanksies!
