Description
I made this coin/question box cake (from Super Mario Bros.) for my boyfriend's recent house-warming party. ^_^ The coins above the cake are the foil-wrapped chocolate filled kind. There is also a layer of coins inside the cake itself, so that when you cut into it, you free the coins. ^___^Frosting is made from scratch, cake is from a box, coins were bought.

Thank you! It's not as hard as it looks. I've just taken the introductory cake course (four classes over the course of a month). ^_^

Thanks for the ! ^_^
Do you have Michael's Craft Stores near you? I just took the introductory cake decorating class there (there's level I, II, III, and a special course on gum paste and fondant). It was $30 (plus supplies, you need to bake a cake for each week) and is one class a week for a month. The course at the Michael's near me came with the book and the basic student supply kit (though you end up wanting to buy extra things so you can have all the cute cake decorating supplies). I really loved the class and need to make time to go back and take the other ones. I have big plans for when I learn fondant! ^__^

You're very welcome! I've worked with fondant before as an amateur (you can see what the cakes I've made in my gallery), and it's really fun to play with. As for the courses, I know a Michael's but it's a little far from where I live. I've also heard of classes being offered at Jo-Ann's and Hancock fabric stores, so I may check those two places out. Thank you so much for the advice! Hehe, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. I'll definitely keep you updated when I start attending the intro classes, hehe.

I have to agree, putting the coins inside the cake is a genius idea! <3 I wish I could have a slice!

Thank you! And no cake is too good to eat. ^_~ I put a lot of work into that, and would have been massively sad if people hadn't devoured it. ^^

I guess eating a cake someone took so much time to make is another way to compliment a person! ;D I wish I could have had a slice, hehe.

Thanks! But there are probably more video game themed cakes out there than you realize. If you're interested, you should do a google search. ^_^
