Description A detailed map of Europe based in the future. This map shows topography in a vintage style and is perfect for a wall poster. This map also shows trade routes, flooding due to climate change and high-speed railways. This future scenario is based on a wave of independence for countries such as Scotland and Catalonia, as well as devolution in many regions. The partial breakup of Russia has also been noted.

This map does not represent my views or political beliefs, and is only an attempt at an unbiased prediction of the future.

All feedback is greatly appreciated. Let me know if you have any questions or critiques. Physical map from the same scenario: procrastinating2much.deviantar…

Why is there no high-speed rail link btw Vienna and Budapest? The precursor of it (OeBB Railjet Zurich/Munich to Budapest via Vienna) has already been existing for quite a few years now.

Bosnia and Herzegovina may break up into two or three parts, and Vojvodina may even secede.

I considered breaking up Bosnia and Herzegovina, but I thought that the resulting international borders would either be messy or would involve a lot of population moving around. I might consider it for a future version though, thank you!

Maybe Transnistria will join Novorossiya, and then the rest of Moldova can merge with Romania.

The fühl when Austria and Südtirol still havn´t joined Germany.

But I like the scenario, it would be massive if Russia breaks apart.

Thank you! I did consider making Austria into a state of Germany, but I couldn’t find much about support for this idea in the 21st century, although saying that i’m quite uninformed about German and Austrian politics. Do you see union between the two countries happening in the near future?

You have to ask the Austrians.

Yes in Austria we already have a more rightwing government, if the society in Germany changes as well,
as we right now with the rise of the AfD, this could happen after Merkels Germany sooner or later.

But not necessarily, both is possible.

What's up with the coast in the Netherlands and a bit of Germany and France? Flooding due to rising sea levels?

Yeah, there's flooding by 2m after rising sea levels.

WTF happened to Belgium, man?!

Split between France and the Netherlands (and a tiny bit to Germany)! The French-speaking part of Belgium, Wallonia, voted for Rattachism (which is the idea that Wallonia should be a devolved region within France) and the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, Flanders, voted for Greater Netherlands. This was a radical idea brought up during the 2010 Belgian Crisis, but in this scenario, I imagine another economic crisis leads to it actually happening.

Novorossiya is possible only as a puppet under Russian occupation. There is no separatist movement inside Ukraine (except the Crimea) which has any influence.

"an unbiased prediction of the future"

Flemings wouldn't accept to be merged with Netherlands, and Walloons wouldn't accept to be merged with France, it would directly lead to independence movements akin to what exists in Catalonia and Scotland; you clearly don't know much about local cultures, and history, of that area. What is likely to happen is Belgium turning into a confederation, a confederation made of 3 entities : Flanders, Brussels, and Wallonia; it is very clear to Belgians. Even independent Flanders and Wallonia make more sense than a merger with their neighbours.

Well i would say you may be right on some level but flanders joining the netherlands may happen due to technicalities that would make it difficult so they could join the netherlands as something like the ABC islands

Yeah, I was thinking along these lines. Flanders would join the Netherlands with its own parliament etc. And a third of Wallonia has said in previous polls (www.lefigaro.fr/international/… ) that it would join with France should Belgium break up, which it probably would in the event of Flanders joining The Netherlands. If a third would join France during the 2010 crisis, then this number may increase in the future if there is another crisis in the next 2 decades. Again, they probably would be devolved within France, and honestly, with a much more integrated EU, it probably won't matter, as they would share a legal system, economy, army etc.

For me it seems logical for flanders to join the dutch even if losely just to have EU membership and trade only Brussels could be a danger to all that
