Description
This is a commission for Stephanie of her characters Haize and Caeruleus~ from AX. Don't shoot meee~ I'm still working on commissions!! *dies**cough*
Anyways~ the reason why I named this piece discovery...other than the fact that I can't think of a creative title to save my life, is because i really did learn something new while drawing this. I actually picked it up from what *tobiee and =Orenji-kun were doing, which is basically doing an undersketch in a different color, and then doing the final sketch in pencil.
I guess you could say this is a different approach to the more traditional sketching in pencil and doing the final drawing in ink... But I will always be looser with a pencil~ And in this case, looser is better, because I feel like the sketch turned out 110% better than it would have without an undersketch.
...Has anyone else ever picked up a tip like this and had a sudden epiphany about it?

I actually just learned the same thing about different colored undersketches, but that I use to draw things in Photoshop. I think you've done a much better job of exampling that.
I really love the hair and clothing in this, all of the little details look just perfect. You did an excellent job on anatomy, great work!

My gawd, this is absolutely amazing. I want to learn how you draw your faces, like the lips, eyes, nose, and the over all shape of the face is always what's make me just wanna lubb all over your work. owo;; Also, the outfit designs are very clever, very cute, too, I like how you've drawn the wrinkles in them... YEA! I've always owned a blue pencil and sometimes used it, but after sitting back to back with ... i think it was orenji-kun? he was a really loud guy, that's all i remember. but after seeing him utilize the color lead sketch and then do such a clean sketch by just penciling over it, it all came together for me! for some reason it is much easier to use a pencil than it is to ink with a pen..?

my new art teachers (yes, I have two teaching me at the same time....) kept telling me to be looser with the pencil. just draw the line in one stroke and fix it only on the final. i didn't really get it until i actually did go over the sketch with a pen. i've never really considered using a different colored pencil as an undersketch. thanks a lot! this way I can avoid using ink all the time >.>
anyways, great piece. the red undersketch puts a nice touch to it. as always, love your work. you draw such pretty guys. ^_^ these two are just gorgeous. i favor the one on the left, but the right one on the right is cute. beautiful job!

different color then sketching over that in pencil

The only thing I'd say was wrong with it is boy on the right's vest. The top button doesn't flow with the rest of them. Other than that this piece is brilliant. Good job! I am defiantly going to

I like to use non-photo blue pencil underneath. It's usually light enough (except when I get really sloppy and energetic... I tend to push the pencil down harder) that when I scan it into the computer, only the graphite pencil marks show. This has saved me ages of planning, erasing, and sheets of paper. Yay!
But still, your lineart is gorgeous and makes mine look really simplistic. I guess I'll keep practicing and take my time to get better!

This really is a great trick, I feel that my whole wrist is looser (making it easier to draw) if I sketch with a pencil I can't erase...now the only thing I'm missing is some talent, got some for sale?
Anyway, love the drawing, I usually like "sketchy" works better than fully colored ones, they're kind of more alive and this is a great example^^!

I'll have to try that technique out. It's a widely used technique I think. Many people use light blue for the sketch and then pencil/pen/ink over it. I love the details in this piece!
