Description This is the beta-stage of the body-pattern for the Toothless Plushie. Feedback would be nice.

I do not own Toothless and How to Train Your Dragon - those are copyright to Dreamworks.

Remember, the bold lines are the actual pattern, while the pencil lines are my recommended seam margin.

Looking good! I like that you added the wings directly into the side piece, rather than on the side seam. I am guessing the the Wing and Tail Fin are going to overlap a bit on the same seam?

They very much are...

Well in the movie it seems to switch a bit - sometimes the wings end before the fins start and sometimes they overlap. I've decided to give them a minor overlap.

Very nice! Do you think this plush could be handsewn?

Possibly. But it was made with machine-sewing in mind.
It's going to take some time.

Okey doke. Reasn is, I hand sewed my other plushies, since I don't know how to use a machine.

I must admit, I'm really no good at sewing either... but let's see how it goes. You should definately use fleece, if you sew by hand, because it doesn't unwind (or so another redditor told me).

Oh, yes, I definitely agree about the fabric choice! I don't like using cotton anyway, even if it's cheaper. Fleece makes such a cuddly toy!

It'll probably seem weird when I walk into a fabric store and ask for fleece... I'm a guy.

Oh, nonsense! Nothing wronng with a guy that knows his way around fabrics. Seems that men make some of the best sewing projects.

Only, I don't know anything about fabrics.
I know this girl... who's really smart and cute. But she just moved to another town to study. Can't really ask her for advice, now can I.

Awesome! What are you studying?

ProjectToothless In reply to JeffrettaLyn [2011-12-14 19:19:38 +0000 UTC]

I meant "studying". I just finished high school and wanted a year off from education... this'll be hard to explain. In my country there's an offer (though it's expensive) for young people that reminds of college - it's a kind of school - except it's only 5-6 months and contains no real education. Instead of subjects such as English, litterature, Science and so on, you can pretty much choose your own subjects from a huge list... including Surfing, Music, Travelling, Philosophy, Drawing, Art, Journalism, Teater/drama and all sorts of cool stuff.

It's widely regarded as the most awesome thing, you can do after finishing high-school... if you can afford it. And I'm going after christmas.

You studying anything?

Not at the moment. I'm saving my money to go to a technical college in town, to be a pharmacy technician. Right now I work for a carpet cleaning company, booking jobs.

Nice enough... I'm a temp. when they call me at sh** o' clock in the morning, I just hurry to wherever I'm needed. The pay is decent. I'm also a middle school temp. The pay is Very decent (about $35 pr hour before taxes), but the working days are proportionally shorter.

Sounds neat! And, yes, that is very decent pay. I'll be looking at making $10 an hour when I get out of college.

ProjectToothless In reply to JeffrettaLyn [2011-12-14 20:57:56 +0000 UTC]

well. Where I live stuff is really expensive, too.
25% VAT on everything... and for everything we make more than $7K per year, there's a 40% income tax... but even after all of that the minimum wage is still about $10.

So I have nothing to complain about

JeffrettaLyn In reply to ProjectToothless [2011-12-14 21:32:11 +0000 UTC]

That's some serious tax! In my state, we have 7% sales tax on most things. And Social Security and Medicare, of course.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ProjectToothless In reply to JeffrettaLyn [2011-12-14 21:52:35 +0000 UTC]

oh well.
We do get free education, public libraies, no payroads, free medical treatment for all, free dental until the age of 18, lots of green energy and research, social security and a bunch of other stuff.

Considering that even after all the taxes, our minimum wage is still noticably higher than in the states, I'd say that's not too shabby.

JeffrettaLyn In reply to ProjectToothless [2011-12-14 22:35:07 +0000 UTC]

Agreed! We have free public education here as well, but I was homeschooled and didn't benefit from that.
Yep, our minumum wage is $7.25.
